Vyšehrad, Prague
(4.7/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
A symbol of Czech statehood, Vyšehrad sits on a high promontory overlooking the Vltava River. This "Castle on the Heights," as its name roughly translates, notably contains a neo-Gothic church and an 11th-century rotunda, the oldest one in Prague. The extensive complex of structures also includes a 19th-century cemetery that's the final resting place for many Czech luminaries, including Alfons Mucha, Bedrich Smetana, and Antonin Dvorak. Many of the cemetery's headstones represent examples of outstanding artistic achievement; Dvorak's tombstone counts among the finest works of sculptor Ladislav Saloun, also interred here. Using our custom trip planner, Prague attractions like Vyšehrad can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • This place is why it is not very popular among tourists, possibly due to location. But it is worth a visit for its uniquely! Wonderful atmospheric place, beautiful nature, the river Vlatvu. Silence and calmness. Visit the Castle definitely take the time (located on Metro station). One of the most vivid impressions for the whole trip.

  • DEfinitely worth a trip - use the metro and then walk from the congress centre station. Great views and worth a walk. Nice place to eat there too. Then walk down and back along river to city
  • lovely views of Prague. Easy to get to and pleasant change from busy city. Good views of river. Buildings. To see from outside.

  • Great church and great views. Not many people like in the centre of Prague. There are many free parking options. Not many restaurants. Perfect for a picnic
  • One of the most beautiful view of Prague especially during fall and summer, with one of the oldest churches. Suggested for a nice walk in a slightly less touristic place compared to other ones in Prague.
  • If you want to know dofferent places of Prague this is a good point to start. Here there are less tourists than in the centre. There is the cemetery of famois czech people. There is a great panorama viewseeing the whole historic Prague.
  • This is an interesting castle. However if you are pressed for time I recommend Prague castle instead, which is larger, has more attractions and is much more preserved. If you have time to spare then yes, this place is worth a look.
  • The next stop after the Prague castle. Beautiful views and scenery. A must see sight for tourists.
