Vyšehrad, Prague

(2,200+ reviews on the web)
Monument Historic Site
A symbol of Czech statehood, Vyšehrad sits on a high promontory overlooking the Vltava River. This "Castle on the Heights," as its name roughly translates, notably contains a neo-Gothic church and an 11th-century rotunda, the oldest one in Prague. The extensive complex of structures also includes a 19th-century cemetery that's the final resting place for many Czech luminaries, including Alfons Mucha, Bedrich Smetana, and Antonin Dvorak. Many of the cemetery's headstones represent examples of outstanding artistic achievement; Dvorak's tombstone counts among the finest works of sculptor Ladislav Saloun, also interred here. Using our custom trip planner, Prague attractions like Vyšehrad can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • A half hour walk along the river from the city centre this is well worth the stroll to escape the hustle and bustle. The Church and cemetery are beautiful, the gardens and views too. Enough cafes etc ...  more »

  • I really enjoyed this place because it was far less busy than the Prague Castle. It offers a gorgeous view from the top over the river and the city, it is so beautiful and relaxing.  more »

  • Area around is calm and beautiful. Castle itself is impressive and has good view. Note that it's located on a hill and it takes some time and energy to get there on foot. Castle tour is boring, looks like guide got bored to tell same jokes and stories several times a day.
  • Go if you want a nice view over Prague and stroll over the old fortifications! At the top next to St. Martins rotunda there is an outdoor space with Picknick tables where the serve grilled meet and vegetables
  • Go to Hospůdka Na Hradbách. It's like a sanctuary. The food from the Grill is quite good and affordable, Drinks are also very good and cheap. You can easily spend a few hours here if you want to chill for a while.
  • It is a must see in Prague Not a place tourists are used to go, which can be quite good Beautiful view of the city and green gardens to have a picnic with your family and friends
  • Mixture of history, culture and local life. One of the best places to enjoy warm evening. Bring a bottle of wine, blanket and search for the best view!
