Vyšehrad, Prague
(4.7/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
A symbol of Czech statehood, Vyšehrad sits on a high promontory overlooking the Vltava River. This "Castle on the Heights," as its name roughly translates, notably contains a neo-Gothic church and an 11th-century rotunda, the oldest one in Prague. The extensive complex of structures also includes a 19th-century cemetery that's the final resting place for many Czech luminaries, including Alfons Mucha, Bedrich Smetana, and Antonin Dvorak. Many of the cemetery's headstones represent examples of outstanding artistic achievement; Dvorak's tombstone counts among the finest works of sculptor Ladislav Saloun, also interred here. Using our custom trip planner, Prague attractions like Vyšehrad can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • This area isn't as famous as the other ones in Prague, above all downtown. That's why it's worth the visit, if you don't mind walking a little bit to get there (bit far away).
  • Not really "touristic" place. For going there, use metro (station "Vyšehrad", line C) You can also visit cemetery "Slavín" where rests in peace many famous czech personages: actors, writers, singers, ...  more »
  • Vysehrad is where the locals like to hang out in a beautiful spot, and picnic away from the hordes of tourists. Is a kind of Park on top of an ancient fortress (where the city). Has a black Gothic church, very pretty (and different). The view is beautiful. Admission is free. I just thought it lacked a bit of structure, being a place that locals love to spend time, I expected to find at least a few bars, outdoor tables, or at least a good "street food" in the Czech Republic. .. but I had practically nothing to eat or drink there (just a normal restaurant, in a closed environment).

  • Great church and great views. Not many people like in the centre of Prague. There are many free parking options. Not many restaurants. Perfect for a picnic
  • One of the most beautiful view of Prague especially during fall and summer, with one of the oldest churches. Suggested for a nice walk in a slightly less touristic place compared to other ones in Prague.
  • If you want to know dofferent places of Prague this is a good point to start. Here there are less tourists than in the centre. There is the cemetery of famois czech people. There is a great panorama viewseeing the whole historic Prague.
  • This is an interesting castle. However if you are pressed for time I recommend Prague castle instead, which is larger, has more attractions and is much more preserved. If you have time to spare then yes, this place is worth a look.
  • The next stop after the Prague castle. Beautiful views and scenery. A must see sight for tourists.
