Vyšehrad, Prague

(4.7/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
A symbol of Czech statehood, Vyšehrad sits on a high promontory overlooking the Vltava River. This "Castle on the Heights," as its name roughly translates, notably contains a neo-Gothic church and an 11th-century rotunda, the oldest one in Prague. The extensive complex of structures also includes a 19th-century cemetery that's the final resting place for many Czech luminaries, including Alfons Mucha, Bedrich Smetana, and Antonin Dvorak. Many of the cemetery's headstones represent examples of outstanding artistic achievement; Dvorak's tombstone counts among the finest works of sculptor Ladislav Saloun, also interred here. Using our custom trip planner, Prague attractions like Vyšehrad can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Although that winter day was bitterly cold, we had a wonderful walk around,. The whole place is a photographer's delight, with spots really beautiful and worthy of being captured forever in a photo.
  • Playwrights to find the place to enjoy a relaxing, cultural events, a lot of history, views of Prague, a place for contemplation for believers in the Cathedral, restaurants etc. Here's something everyone finds. In addition to breathtaking views of Prague here you'll find restaurants to luxury with style, so ordinary for even a snack box. At one end-over Výtoní you can visit the concerts and theatre performances are held at the other end Knights ' games. Be sure to go take a look into the underground Hall Gorlice and don't forget the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul. Adjacent to the Slavin cemetery with her most famous personalities-our history. You can have your picture taken with sculptures of the master Josef Václav Myslbek and stroll along the ramparts all round, there is a beautiful view. You can sit on benches or stretch out a blanket on the grass and do need to be a picnic.

  • Great church and great views. Not many people like in the centre of Prague. There are many free parking options. Not many restaurants. Perfect for a picnic
  • One of the most beautiful view of Prague especially during fall and summer, with one of the oldest churches. Suggested for a nice walk in a slightly less touristic place compared to other ones in Prague.
  • If you want to know dofferent places of Prague this is a good point to start. Here there are less tourists than in the centre. There is the cemetery of famois czech people. There is a great panorama viewseeing the whole historic Prague.
  • This is an interesting castle. However if you are pressed for time I recommend Prague castle instead, which is larger, has more attractions and is much more preserved. If you have time to spare then yes, this place is worth a look.
  • The next stop after the Prague castle. Beautiful views and scenery. A must see sight for tourists.
