Vltava Water Tower & Manes Gallery, Prague
(3.8/5 based on 30+ reviews on the web)
Perched above Prague's main river, Vltava Water Tower & Manes Gallery stands as one of the city's finest exhibits of contemporary art. Visit the iconic tower, which dates from the 1400s and long powered the town's fountains, and admire its sturdy construction topped by a classic onion-shaped dome. Then head to the gallery underneath and wander through its display of works from both Czech and international artists. This was a favorite venue of the late revolutionary, playwright, and president Vaclav Havel. You'll notice that the building's design allows for a great deal of natural light, keeping the interior illuminated and affording a sweeping view of the city and river. • It's a cool place. Not something that you can't miss, but it's good for selfies and to see some locals coming and going, especially youngsters.
  • The building of the old water tower organically looks on the Bank of the Vltava River. And that's attached to it almost end-to-end modern building exhibition center with restaurant-clearly spoils the picture.

  • Down the River towards Dancing and new town houses I noticed this curious tower which I found to be part of the old aqueduct. Next door is the Gallery Manes which is still a great exhibit space. I stopped briefly and it was worth it.
