  • Strolling through Wenceslas I discovered this wonderful neo-Renaissance-style building, in whose front, are beautiful figures and painted scenes. I then knew that the Wiehl House, a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, is owned by the Academy of Sciences.

  • Is the square symbol of the Velvet Revolution and the uprising that led to the overthrow of the Communist regime. It was here that in 1969 the student Jan Palach set himself on fire and is also where in November 1989 was held the protest March against police brutality. At the Centre of the square a monument remembers the victims of communism. On the square is the historic Hotel Europe in Art Nouveau style. At the end of the square stands the magnificent National Museum with its spectacular staircase. (GIUSEPPE CASAGRANDE)
