  • Directly opposite the main entrance in the first courtyard Castle (when viewed across the Gradchanskuju square) stands the three-storey (attic premises-four storeys) building a Tuscan Palace (Toskánský palác), erected in the style of classical Roman Baroque. Its second name, occasionally sounding of mouth 956429 guides-Palace of the seven free Arts (septem artēs līberālēs) "-this building got through seven sculptures installed on the balustrade over the Windows of mansard floor, which to symbolize the circle of educational sciences (disciplines) in the Hellenistic era in Greece, ancient Rome and medieval Western Europe: grammar, Dialectic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy. The authorship of these sculptures belongs to the famous Czech sculptor Jan Brokoffu (Jan Brokoff), a well-known fellow travelers on the statue of St. John of Nepomuk on the Charles Bridge. On the façade to its fullest look curious tourist are exaggeratedly coats of arms of the Dukes of Tuscan, which at that time were the owners of this luxury castle complex heraldic composition of the two overlapping shields with 956429 lions, fish, crosses, crowns and Burgundy chivalrous order of the Golden Fleece. The construction of the Palace, which was built in the late 17th century, was carried out by the architect Giovanni Antonio Kanevalli (Giovanni Antonio Canevalli), by the French architect Jean Baptiste Mateja (Jeana Baptista Matheye). Currently the Palace houses the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • The palace started being built in 1960 by Count Thun from Hohestein at a place where there were several houses owned by the Lobkowicz family. Count Thun planned to establish here, in the immediate vicinity of Prague Castle, his representative seat though he did not live long enough to see it finished. In 1718 the unfinished palace was bought by the Dutchess of Tuscany – hence the name. The palace was built built by the architect G.A. Canevalli based on the projet of the French architect Jean Baptist Mathey. The palace has altogether four closed wings with a rectangle courtyard between them and two fountains. The Baroque facade is decorated by two Tuscany coats of arms and statues created by Jan Brokoff.
