The Strahov Monastic Brewery, Prague
(4.1/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Have some beer with your history at The Strahov Monastic Brewery, located on the grounds of a Premonstratensian monastery. Perched on top of a hill leading up to Prague's castle, this microbrewery produces a beer named after Saint Norbert, the founder of the Premonstratensian religious order. Originally established in 1628, the brewery shut its production down in 1907. Painstakingly restored and reopened nine decades later, the brewery now includes a modern restaurant, also named after Saint Norbert. Stop by for a meal and a glass of dark or amber beer, brewed according to regulations set by a purity law enacted in 1516. • Visit the Strahov Monastery cannot fail to include a stop at the famous brewery. Beer-or rather the beers, saw that produce different qualities-its really good and deserves to be paid a little more than average (Prague, mind you). Unfortunately, as often happens in this town, the staff isn't the friendliest, but there you go to make small talk with waiters.

  • Typical brewery facility, rustic and practical. It's like in Bavaria. The menu offers a few curiosities as well as typical Czech cuisine, which we chose and have liked. The veggieburger with huge mushrooms and the Zwieberlsuppe were very tasty and fresh. The traditional goose leg tasted like in the kitchens, slightly too long in the oven.
