The Powder Tower, Prague
(4.2/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Marking the entry into Prague's historical old town, The Powder Tower is one of the original city gates. Constructed in 1475 and intended for ceremonial rather than defensive purposes, the tower played a major role during the coronation parades of kings of Bohemia. Royalty continued to pass through this gate on their way to coronation ceremonies until the 17th century, when the tower became a major gunpowder depository (hence the name). Restored in the middle of the 19th century by architect Josef Mocker, the tower bears statues of several Bohemian kings and symbols of territories that they controlled. For sweeping views over the old town, visit the tower's 44 m (144 ft) high gallery. • One of the original gates into the old town. Beautiful gothic architecture is worth going to see. The climb to the top is via steps so not for the faint hearted. Views are worth it on a clear day.
  • One of the city gates of Prague's original and oldest one. The name of the gate, 17. century gunpowder used to store.

  • Thinking about how old this tower is is really awe inspiring. Climbing to the viewpoint next to it provides a nice view of the city.
  • Elegant tower with black colours, awesome design and richness of Prague architecture.
  • Beautiful medieval peace of architecture right in Prague center. It marks the border between old and new parts of the town. And you can actually go inside, but it's for additional fee.
  • Worth the few bucks to walk up to the top. Lots of tourist traps outside though.
  • It makes you feel you are somewhere middle of medieval and modern age.
