The museum houses secret alchemical laboratories that were built for King Rudolf II in the 16th century. The laboratories were discovered during the reconstruction of one of the city's oldest historical buildings, a World Heritage Site. During your visit, you can find out where the secret of making gold was written, who the reputed founder of alchemy was, and other legends from the so-called Prague Magical Triangle. • This is a great place to see how an alchemical laboratory was set up. Discovered only 12 years ago when parts of Prague was flooded. The subterranean lab was in very good shape and still you can see an appreciate this ancient art. The guided tour is excellent if you get the younger girl who obviously is passionate about the place.
  • One of the few houses in the city built in 800s to survive. The lab is great with original features.
  • This is a must see. They have a small tour every half hour and you get so see some amazing parts of one of the oldest buildings in that part of town. The building has been well persevered and restored to its original condition so its like walking back in time! The staff is knowledgeable about the history of the aria and willing to take their time with the tour.
  • How is this rated so well? It's a very old, small generic basement. Except for the alchemist replica tools and furniture it looks just like some of Prags basement bars. The 200ks entrance fee is better spent in one of those for sure.
  • One of my favourite museums in Prague! The tour in English was very interesting and informative. I loved it!

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
