Republic Square, Prague

4.0
#146 of 1,254 in Things to do in Prague
Republic Square is home to the city's largest shopping center, bars and restaurants, and several hotels. Whether you're staying--or just peeking--in one of the three-, four-, or five-star hotels, step out into the square to visit a small market overflowing with fruits and vegetables, as well as Czech food, such as deer and wild-boar sausages. Stop by the powder tower and then the municipal house, which features salons, concert halls, restaurants, and reception rooms. Whether you get up really early or stay up really late, cope with the munchies on the restaurant floor of the Palladium shopping center, which is open until 4 a.m. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Republic Square and many more Prague attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Prague itinerary planner .

  • Between Mësto and Nové Staré Mësto. In the days I was there I saw several fairs and artistic presentations on this site. Besides circulating through there several lines of electric trams. There are taxi and Tuk Tuk. I went to 2 shopping malls that are in this square. There also we found some very important cultural spaces.

  • Once it was a nice square even with a lot of people. Today it is sad to have a lot of food and drink stalls all around, it smells, and the garbage in overall. Of course a lot of people like it because...  more »

  • The best thing about this square is a small market with stalks filled with all manner of local production (not sure if it's there all year or only in spring-summer). You can buy great craft beer, tasty cheeses, some baked goods and vegetables. You can even grab a sword from a smith!
  • I like this part of City cos of Paladium and many really good fancy and one of best Prague restaurants are over here.
  • Republic Square borders Old Town and New Town. Two large modern shopping malls dominate the square, the Palladium and Kotva, acting as the high street of Prague. In this square stands the Municipal House with its Smetana Concert Hall. Around the corner from the Municipal House stands an imposing tower, the Powder Gate. Part of the original city gates, it still serves its function as the gateway between the Old Town and the New Town and often times a clash between Modernity and Heritage.
  • very nice square with nice cafes like cacao and historical places like Municipal house and shopping center Palladium
  • It is a perfectly functional square.

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
