Prague Zoo, Prague

4.7
#1 of 243 in Outdoors in Czech Republic
Prague Zoo occupies a wooded area on the right bank of the Vltava River. Home to nearly 5,000 animals from almost 700 different species, the park offers you a chance to come face-to-face with giraffes, gorillas, polar bears, tigers, and red pandas. Although the park shelters over 130 species listed as critically endangered, its most important possession may be a herd of rare Przewalski’s horses, native to the steppes of central Asia. Stop by to see the descendants of the last Przewalski's horse caught in the wild, and discover other highlights of this animal sanctuary by taking a guided ride on the zoo's miniature cable car. Put Prague Zoo on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Prague holiday planner.

  • I have been in Prague Zoo 10 times at least and it is getting better with every year. To check everything you need at least 5 hours. Make sure, that you have comfortable shoes and cash, so you can buy...  more »
  • The ZOO is really pretty and about everyone here finds your favorite section. Those countries are more, such as sea lions, polar bears, vydrym, but probably most impressed on me indonezský Pavilion. When I first visited it, it was a visit to the zoo so after 15 years. And I have to say that the offset for the years it was really huge. Well let us surprise you. It's worth it. Some practical advice: 1) Go on all day-there's really enough, and if you do not have enough time to not using it. 2) drive-free PUBLIC TRANSPORT is applicable, but lengthy and packed. At the same time you lose your peace of mind. Believe that you and your children after a day at the ZOO you state in the crammed bus. 3) Park in the parking lot of the ZOO-to spare the majority ends rather fine or take-off. Alternatively, vykradeným in the car. (Enough parking, however, ZOO friends did). 4) pick a day when you go to the ZOO to see if it has been bad for a long time-and at the same time is beautifully over the weekend ... so it will be really a lot of people in the ZOO. In principle, it bothers only in parking lots, but enough of them and the chance to eat quickly. 5) at the ZOO you can eat fairly well-I personally quite successfully objedvám in the man in the booth at the main entrance, but also a self-service restaurant is reasonable. There is even a little further, but I don't have experience there. 6) Strollers and bikes with you-if you go with small children, you can take the bikes. The ZOO is great and if you don't carry the children, so they can come in handy. At the main entrance, you can rent a small cart and kids to pull on it. And as an interesting attraction rides the ZOO train (I think has only two stations. It's Užijt.

  • Nice zoo, nice paddocks, the only drawback is the large number of visitors, there is no peace. Admission and parking, maybe a little more expensive. If you want to see really all one day is not enough

  • Huge zoo, can easily spend an entire day wandering around. Very impressive variety of birds here. So if you're into that, you'll love this place. However, most of the enclosures seemed a bit too small for the birds, they aren't given any space to fly. Could improve on exhibition of animals. A lot of the exhibits had too much vegetation and you spend most of your time playing hide and seek. I understand that this might be more comfortable for the animal, but perhaps giving them a private space with a live feed webcam could be a better way to give them some privacy. Food options in the zoo are quite limited, most of the kiosks sell the same thing. That being said, the food is quite affordable, not hiked up too much from prices outside!
  • Awesome! It's huge, animals are well kept and the is a ton of things to see! Prepare to walk a lot, it took us about 4 hours to see everything. Get comfortable shoes :) Some animals can get really close too you, cave with free flying bats and aviaries are fantastic. You can get some food there and it's not that expensive. Very child friendly. Highly recommended!
  • I hated this part of our holiday. I cannot believe there are ANY 5 star reviews but there are dozens. The enclosures are so small. We saw elephants grouped around one small tree trying to get some shade. Wolves with NOWHERE to run. I saw the conditions, the lack of space, the birds with net above them about 8 foot high and I put invisible blinkers on my eyes, didn't look to either side and walked out as fast as I could. I am not a huge sentimentalist and I am not a soppy animal owner - but I cried !!!
  • Always slightly uncomfortable about animals in cages, but the enclosures at Prague zoo are larger than in many other places, and the animals seem well treated. This is a very big place with a lot to do for kids. Take a map to avoid getting lost. The furnicular is a good way of getting up and down the hill (cost CZK 25, you need coins). Some signs are also in English. Note that parking can be tricky, and it's very expensive, so if possible use public transport.
  • Awesome ZOO, well-kept animals, a lot of various species. Great organisation of a detached parking lot and bus transportation. The quasi-restaurants and bistros inside with endless queues and all fried are a big shame. Walk time to just have a look ~4-6 hours. To really see everything in detail, I would assume a couple of days.

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
