Prague Zoo, Prague

4.7
#1 of 134 in Outdoors in Czech Republic
Prague Zoo occupies a wooded area on the right bank of the Vltava River. Home to nearly 5,000 animals from almost 700 different species, the park offers you a chance to come face-to-face with giraffes, gorillas, polar bears, tigers, and red pandas. Although the park shelters over 130 species listed as critically endangered, its most important possession may be a herd of rare Przewalski’s horses, native to the steppes of central Asia. Stop by to see the descendants of the last Przewalski's horse caught in the wild, and discover other highlights of this animal sanctuary by taking a guided ride on the zoo's miniature cable car. Put Prague Zoo on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Prague holiday planner.

  • Interestingly most of the visitors seem to be foreign tourists. There is a baby gorilla and two baby elephants which were quite nice to see.  more »
  • Don't hesitate - visit the Prague Zoo! Inside you can take a train to visit some of the animals that are far from the entrance. Or you can take the lift to go on the top of the mountain - great experi...  more »
  • It was a rainy day but that did not dampen our spirits. The hippos were spectacular. You could see them up close. The eliphants were a bit timid that day but the facilities were impressive and cleaned...  more »

  • Beautiful nature, there's much to see, could easily spend more time there! Park is very clean and well taken care of. The exhibits are mostly very big. It's a well thought out zoo. (Milkshakes not recommended... they were horrible)
  • It's a must-go if you are in Prague!! It's a very huge zoo, animals are divided by species and there are of all kind. It costs really few money and there are several discounts (if you are students, family tickets or group tickets for example). It's easily reachable by bus which stops right in front of the zoo. If you like animals it's worth definitely a visit!!
  • This ZOO is just PERFECT! I love it! It's one of the best things in the whole Czechia. So many interesting animals and good food and a train that takes you anywhere and a lift and you can go there with your dog! They also have a gluten free restaurant. Amazing experience!
  • Very beautiful zoo with very friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Dropped a phone at the giraffes and we were helped very kindly to retrieve it. Definitely worth 5 stars
  • Ranked as one of the world's top 10 zoos, Prague Zoo has earned it. Kid friendly with many playgrounds, slides, trains, and a wading pool.. Cafeterias serve local Czech cuisine and vendors serve up freshly roasted sausages or hot dogs. The impressive animal experiences get you up close and personal to feeding tigers, chimps, giraffes, lemurs, and the elephants. Tha fun sea lion show requires you come 30 minutes early to get the last seat. I only wish the few smokers who ignore the guidelines would show a bit more restraint to be respectful to the animals and guests. Take the public transport to avoid expensive parking fees... up from 50 czk a few years ago to an unreasonable 200 czk on weekends.

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
