Marking the entry into Prague's historical old town, Powder Tower is one of the original city gates. Constructed in 1475 and intended for ceremonial rather than defensive purposes, the tower played a major role during the coronation parades of kings of Bohemia. Royalty continued to pass through this gate on their way to coronation ceremonies until the 17th century, when the tower became a major gunpowder depository (hence the name). Restored in the middle of the 19th century by architect Josef Mocker, the tower bears statues of several Bohemian kings and symbols of territories that they controlled. For sweeping views over the old town, visit the tower's 44 m (144 ft) high gallery. Arrange to visit Powder Tower and other attractions in Prague using our Prague trip itinerary builder tool.

As a building which separate the old town and the new town, I find it fascinating. 1. The reason why it called The Powder Tower is because this tower used to store gunpowder. (You will know it if you visit it) 2. You can compare the old town and the new town once you reach the top. The scenery is stunning and picturesque. 3. Don't be astounded because of the stairs, it is a thousand times worth it.

Great views! The walk up the stairs is a bit precarious, being narrow and steep. Note: Enter at base, climb to first level to buy tickets. Climb to next level to present your ticket. Then climb to the top. People climb up as others climb down. Super tight. The views are worth the climb. 100CR per person.

So beautiful. Lots of eye candy and photo opportunity. Prague is so worth the visit. Uplifting and awe inspiring architecture. It's a real contrast to post communism.

The Powder Tower is a historical landmark in Prague. It is one the city gates. It’s special because when you pass through it, you either experience the old city or the modern city. They say it was called the Powder Tower because the gun power was stored in the tower. The tower has a swivel staircase that could barely fit one passing person. So be ready to give way. Climbing up is fun. However, it will not provide you with panoramic views of Prague as the tower is not very high and it is surrounded by other buildings.

My first piece of advice would be Take Good Walking Shoes and I mean just that. This city is a fantastic place to walk around. The people are really friendly and speak very good English. You cant go wrong in Prague eat and drink are plentiful and not expensive so go on treat yourself. The Liberty hotel is a great place to stay your close to everything to see.
