Old Town (Stare Mesto), Prague
(4.8/5 based on 22,000+ reviews on the web)
The oldest section of a very old city, Old Town (Stare Mesto) sits on the right bank of the Vltava River and contains most of Prague's major architectural landmarks. The central square of this atmospheric old quarter has served as the city's main marketplace since 1100 CE, though excavations of ancient underground cellars have revealed that permanent habitation probably existed here long before that time. Crisscrossed by a network of cobblestone streets, this historical neighborhood offers you a chance to discover a cityscape seemingly frozen in the 14th century. The easiest way to explore this labyrinthine quarter is to follow the signposted tourist trail, following a route once used by kings and queens on their way to coronation. See Old Town (Stare Mesto) and all Prague has to offer by arranging your trip with our Prague travel itinerary planner.

  • Simply stroll the streets already makes a welcome visit. Is full of souvenirs, local Thai massage shops (not glued or with tail in the city), restaurants and brasseries. I highly recommend a stop in any store of Manufaktura. They sell wooden toys but above all it is worth of cosmetic products. In many places (like starbucks or shopping centres charge for entering the bathroom, some 10 Crowns)

  • Easy and joyful city to walk, enjoying architecture and cosmopolitanism. Any season, is worth it. Just be careful with Uber drivers.
  • On our trip to Praha, we stayed not far from the Stare Mesto and visited on many occasions as it is a great place to take in the city's architecture and atmosphere. The square is surrounded by bars an...  more »
