Old Town Bridge Tower, Prague

(4.6/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Walk the "royal way" under the triumphal arch of Old Town Bridge Tower, just like ancient Bohemian kings did on their way to coronation. Schwabian architect Peter Parler designed the tower as part of city's fortifications in the 14th century. Climb 138 stairs to an observation room to look out over the old town. Above the arch, on the coats of arms, you'll notice a black eagle on a golden background and a silver two-tailed lion on a red background. The three statues above the coats of arms represent two Bohemian kings, Charles IV and Wenceslas IV, and the patron saint of Bohemia, St. Vitus. • The tower is located on the eastern side of the Charles Bridge and its construction began simultaneously with its erection in the year 1357. At one time served as a sort of triumphal arch, through which Czech rulers were passing on the coronation from Charles Bridge to Prague Castle. Now the tower is not only a tourist attraction but also a wonderful viewing platform, which offers an excellent panorama of the city and the view of the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. Highly recommend to visit the entrance fee 90 CZK. Climb the Tower in a simple, need to overcome nekrutyh 138. The truth is, the observation deck is not very convenient and helpful, therefore, if the visitor quite a lot, be it is not very comfortable. We were lucky: in February, tourists are few, and we were able to enjoy plenty of views of Charles Bridge from above. In the basement of the Tower there is a small exhibition of objects recovered from the Vltava River. Actually, nothing interesting there, this gentle-man's set can be found at the bottom of any other rivers: bottles, coins, utensils, wrenches, sockets, tires, old cell phones, and other nonsense. Here shown a film in Czech language, telling how the thought about the architecture and history of the building of the old tower.

  • Lo mejor de Praga
  • I am a student but they made me pay the full ticket even if I gave them my student card, because it was 2014/2015 and now I am on second year. The panorama is great but not worth the price, is much better the other tower. The museum is ridiculous, with objects found in the river (like cameras, trash, tires and other nonsense). Do not lose time here
  • The point where visitors enters into the Old Town. It is also a very eye-catching landmark and monument of the city.
  • One of many iconic places of Prague. Enjoy castle view and big crowd of touristits. Also, beware of pickpockets
  • Easy to miss, but worth the detour. The museum itself isn't so impressive, but the views from the top are worth the cost.
