Learn about the Czech Republic's culture and natural environment by exploring the scientific and historical collections of National Museum. Josef Schultz designed this monumental Neo-Renaissance building in the 19th century as a symbol of the Czech National Revival. The grand entrance hall features a wide staircase, intricate stonework, and ceiling frescos. The museum houses almost 14 million items relating to mineralogy, paleontology, mycology, botany, entomology, zoology, anthropology, the arts, and archeology. Look for a 12th-century silver tiara in the archeology department and a gilded silver rhyton in the prehistory area. The theater department includes costume designs, music, memorabilia, and marionettes from the Czech puppet theater. • It’s not communicated that this is the “new” national museum while the old one is temporarily closed. There are only three, poorly curated and extremely dated exhibits mostly on the natural world. If ...  more »
  • We were walking towards the subway Museum station on Wenceslas Square had become concerned about the splendid building facing the street. It is from a great sight with pomp and circumstance. The building was the Prague National Museum. Prague's largest museum, it is attached library.

  • There seems to be some confusion about the fact that the National Museum building is currently closed for restoration. The exhibits being mentioned are in the building next door called the New Nationa...  more »

  • Recommended but not higly.Go and visit if you have enough time to stay and not really good plan for the day. You will no regret going but might not be fully satisfied either. So for adults and youths with no real interest in museum, this might further worsen your interest but for museum lovers there is always something new in every museum. So person like me finds it good.
  • Went during their open door day, so even typically closed areas were open to the public, which was interesting. The museum consisted of just two exhibits, they're eagerly awaiting reconstruction of the old building so they can get back to normal. Quite nice way to spend your afternoon nevertheless.

  • We went to this museum because it came highly recommended however we were SORELY disappointed. The staff member that was in charge of ticket sales was incredibly rude, possibly one of the rudest people I've ever met in my life. We asked for the family package (it was not stated on the board whether children had to be below a certain age) and the woman berated us for asking and said 'I don't see any children here. Who are they?' As my dad began to explain that we're his kids, she yelled at him and said 'Look at me when you're talking. I can't hear you.' Service was incredibly disappointing. We walked out of there right after this woman's verbal abuse.
  • The main building is closed. The new building is fine but half of it is closed and the exhibitions are pants. There’s a ‘Noah’s ark’ exhibition full of old taxidermy and dodgy science. Fine if you like that but for £7 you’re better off not going and saving your money. Strongly advice not going.
