Specialty Museum Museum
Learn about the Czech Republic's culture and natural environment by exploring the scientific and historical collections of Národní muzeum. Josef Schultz designed this monumental Neo-Renaissance building in the 19th century as a symbol of the Czech National Revival. The grand entrance hall features a wide staircase, intricate stonework, and ceiling frescos. The museum houses almost 14 million items relating to mineralogy, paleontology, mycology, botany, entomology, zoology, anthropology, the arts, and archeology. Look for a 12th-century silver tiara in the archeology department and a gilded silver rhyton in the prehistory area. The theater department includes costume designs, music, memorabilia, and marionettes from the Czech puppet theater. Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.

  • We were so excited to explore more of Prague. Wrong! The "museum" consisted of two exhibits; 50's clothes and off the ark. The clothes were half a room of older clothes, nothing noteworthy or worthy of being in a paid museum. And the ark was poorly done taxidermy, which has been seen countless times and has nothing to do with Czech anything. They tell you 3 floors are open for viewing but the 3rd floor is actually the stuffed lion and horse (cause they were a couple stairs up). Don't waste your $, I was embarrassed for them
  • Great museum with plenty of variety. The "Noah's Ark" exhibit is quite interesting. Another reviewer complained of the museum being too small. For ~$6, 2.5 hours of content was definitely worth it for us.
  • Although the Museum was closed when we visited, the building took our breaths away. It truly is beautiful! We cannot wait to visit Prague again later this year, maybe we will have more luck and will be able to get inside!
  • The main museum containing the permanent exhibitions has been under renovation for a time already and I don't think it'd be opening any time soon. As of the moment several temporary exhibitions are in place. We got to see the Noah's Ark exhibition in the new building just beside the main, and it wasn't all that impressive. If you've been to the nicer museums in France, Germany and Italy, don't bother going here. It is pretty small and most of what you'll see are stuffed animals. It could be great for kids, though. You'll be done here in 30 mins.
  • We had couple hours to spend before heading to catch our flight to Paris (August 2010) so decided to roam around at the national museum since it was close to our hotel. After bit of exploring we sat down to enjoy coffee and chocolate cake and some good views of Wencela Sq.
