Muzeum komunismu, Prague

Step behind the Iron Curtain with a visit to Muzeum komunismu, dedicated to the story of ordinary Czechs struggling for democracy in the decades following World War II. Established in 2001 by businessman Glenn Spicker, the museum is located in an 18th-century palace near the center of the city. Spicker gathered many of the displayed artifacts, which include photographs and military objects, at flea markets and junk shops in and around Prague. The museum's three galleries offer visitors a fully immersive experience, complete with film screenings and educational lectures. Start your exploration at the museum's reconstructed classroom, offering insight into a day in the life of a Communist-era schoolchild. • Lots of information, which puts the communist era into context with the rest of Czech history and good English translations. I agree it was slightly biased though, and would have benefited from more.....  more »
  • Although, I did enjoy seeing some of the photos, which probably are all being pulled out of a single album, the museum felt like western propaganda against the communist regime. I think that if you...  more »
  • Very informative overview of a dark period in Czech history. Many interesting videos, photo's, texts.... Definitely worth a visit.  more »
  • Easy-to-follow & it takes about two hours to finish. It has a nice, simple interior with a reasonable entrance fee. It was absolutely roasting when I was walking inside it though which made it a bit sleepy. It served up some interesting displays and memories of a not-so-distant past and also explained how the present is dictated currently.
  • Good place to visit, a bit pricey. I would definitely recommend to spend like 2 hours there and read some very interesting information about communism in Prague, also available to watch some videos and take cool pictures. Five stars to this place just because it's one of the best museum's I ever visited.
  • A really fascinating and important place of Czech history. I recommend everyone who is in Prague to visit the Museum of Communism, because it explains a lot of Czech history. The museum itself is really well made with fascinating things of old times (uniforms, old stores etc) in display. All in all a very nice Museum which conveys the time of Communism in the Czech Republic very well!
  • Technically not supposed to say anything about this place. KGB have been keeping an eye on me... its good though. Very good. All is good.. (send help)
  • Lots of information to take in and if its not busy you can take your time, but as with these types of places, you end up with people standing shoulder to shoulder reading the information on the walls and trying not to obstruct each others view. The videos of case studies and such were interesting but if you want to get the most out of this, you'd need a good couple of hours. There is seating at different points but you aren't guaranteed a seat. Learned some new things and was OK price wise.
