Mucha Museum, Prague

3.4
Packed with paintings, posters, and decorative panels, Mucha Museum offers a look at the creative universe of one of the biggest names in the Art Nouveau movement. The relatively small museum holds a large collection of Alfons Mucha's finest works, as well as a selection of his personal photographs. Mucha enthralled the art world of the early 20th century with his paintings of Slavic maidens adorned with garlands and linden boughs. Although the museum displays many of these images, its prized possession remains an original 1894 poster of actress Sarah Bernhardt, which elevated Mucha to international stardom. The on-site shop offers gifts with various Mucha motifs. • We were there three. Three girls aged between 18-19 and we were not impressed. We had to pay reduction still 160,000 CZK (€6.50). What is pretty much that the whole exhibition consists of two rooms. All images look pretty much alike, and photograph may not be even. We were so after 10 minutes already through the €6.50 as a discount were really much much. Our teacher (32) found it also not so super, even though she is a big fan of Mucha. She was also disappointed that the exhibition is so expensive for the little pictures. At checkout, there were also difficulties because the lady there had no change. So we stood there again 5-10 minutes. Almost as long as we have then needed for the entire Museum. Summary: Nothing for people are not huge fans of Mucha. And have little money for the ticket.

  • Small museum, but very nice organized. You can learn about Czeck Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha's life and work. I especially enjoyed Princess Hyacinth! The shop sells lots of posters and reproduct...  more »

  • This was a good museum to learn about Mucha. I feel like this is an artist I've been watching my whole life and did not know who he was. We got more information from the guidebook that we brought with us. I feel like this is an artist I've been watching my whole life and did not know who he was. We got more information from the guidebook that we brought with us, which was great. The biggest downfall is they did not have any of his major works like the Slavic epic, which are in the National Gallery.
  • I loved this museum! It's small but you get to see and appreciate the artist's work. Staff was very nice. They offer free toilet service and the gift shop also offers some original souvenirs... you can even buy replicas of Mucha's masterpieces. Totally recommend.
  • A small, but delightful place. The exhibits show a variety of his works throughout his life. The gift shop also had a variety of prints, postcards, and bookmarks. We bought tickets at the Kafka museum for a reduced admission.
  • Probably the most boring museum I've ever visited. No information about the artist. My suggestion: go to the shop (it's free), you'll see almost all the paintings and photos in there. The shop is almost as big as the museum so you get an idea where the priority is set. In short: museum like back in the 90s, way too expensive.
  • Quite small, but there were some nice prints, one painting and an interesting movie. Takes only 40 minutes in total

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
