Mucha Museum, Prague

(1,200+ reviews on the web)
Art Museum
Packed with paintings, posters, and decorative panels, Mucha Museum offers a look at the creative universe of one of the biggest names in the Art Nouveau movement. The relatively small museum holds a large collection of Alfons Mucha's finest works, as well as a selection of his personal photographs. Mucha enthralled the art world of the early 20th century with his paintings of Slavic maidens adorned with garlands and linden boughs. Although the museum displays many of these images, its prized possession remains an original 1894 poster of actress Sarah Bernhardt, which elevated Mucha to international stardom. The on-site shop offers gifts with various Mucha motifs. A visit to Mucha Museum represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Prague holiday planner to plot your vacation.

  • This art collection is very interesting, I didn't realise how much I knew this artist. It is however very overpriced as it's a very small gallery but interesting works & a good collection.  more »
  • Never knew much about this artist until we visited Prague. We enjoyed learning about his style and the museum gift shop is nice too.  more »
  • Even if you have little time in Prague, highly recommend to visit the Mucha Museum. It is located in the Centre of town, close to Wenceslas square. Several halls with works of flies, not only its famous theatrical posters, but also paintings and a small showcase with jewelry (it is a pity that a little!). In the last room shows a documentary about the artist. By the way, buying a ticket to this Museum, you can purchase a ticket to the Museum of Kafka. And if there is a student card, and at a reduced price. Biletjor says in Russian, what was important

  • Artworks themselves are great but all are framed with this horrible textured glass that makes all the original work look like a low quality print. Really disappointing if you're like me and like to look at stuff in a gallery up close! The lighting is terrible too and some pieces are in darkness while some are only half-lit (see picture). It's also pretty overpriced for how small the gallery is (240 CZK per adult when I went). Better to go see Mucha's Slav Epic while it's still at the Prague National Gallery instead.
  • I can understand what others have said about size and lighting, but it's worth going to see some beautiful works of art nouveau.
  • Great place if you're interested in Mucha's work and life. Exhibition contains not only the posters, but also drawings, paintings and photographies.
  • A small museum dedicated to Mucha, an amazing Art Nouveau artist. They have many posters and illustrations of his Paris period. You will understand more about his method and artistic range. A very good museum shop with great choice of posters.
  • Very small (although interesting ) selection of Mucha's works. Bad lighting, no audioguides and overpriced if compared to other museums. In contrast, the gift shop is very rich.
