  • Obbezhav Gradchanskuju perimeter area, we, having passed under the shadow of blossoming chestnut trees to its far end (when viewed from the Castle), approached the humble church of St. Benedict in Hradčany (Kostel sv. Benedikta na Hradčanech). Surely many of fellow tourists not once ran past this, at first glance, quite plain and uninteresting structures. The only thing, IMHO, "clinging" look is a small Tower, towering over the crest of the roof of this temple. The first religious building on this site was the parish church of Hradcany, the mention of which relates us to expect the year 1353. The Church is part of the monastery of barefooted Carmelites, female order of which appeared in Prague in the year 1655. Latest pokochevali a lot on the Czech territory, until, finally, the Emperor Leopold II gave the most bosonogim karmelitkam building at the Hradcanske square (where they now reside). In Socialist times, the nuns "gently asked (some sources claim that the building of the monastery was used by rulers as a hotel for important guests) and just after the revolution, the Carmelite Sisters for the year 1992 were able to come back. Sources claim that St. Benedict church building built in the style of a mixture of Gothic and Baroque. The altar of the temple is located on the eastern side and is surrounded from all sides by one-storey monastery buildings, has a wide oblong narrow nave and presbytery (space between the nave and the chapel) with the completion of the five-way. Much to my surprise even the official website of the order of barefooted Carmelites (under the Church mentioned above) could not answer the question-what was erected this building? I understand that the history of the building of the temple was long and not very funny, maybe it is for this reason that the name of the architect vozdvignuvshego it got lost somewhere in time.

  • Compared to other churches in Prague, this is really small, not very great, just so-so, so the light is really few, more like the local church. Don't push!
