Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia, Prague

#19 of 166 in Museums in Prague
At Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia, trace the development of Czech art, starting with mid-14th-century panel paintings and sculptures, then moving on to 15th- and the early-16th-century oil paintings executed in the International style. The authentic environment of a Gothic convent is the backdrop for an exhibit of medieval and early Renaissance art depicting mostly religious subjects. A 13th-century princess who opted for a life of charity and piety over a life of luxury and comfort founded the convent and became its first abbess. The convent is also renowned as being haunted by the ghost of the Unhappy Nun. • If you do not like the tables, the altarpieces, then please do! If not, push the door of the convent far from the crowd and that the entry is included in the past of the 6 sites of the National Gallery with: Kinsky Palace, Palace of fairs or Veletrzni, Sternberg, Schwarzenberg, Salm. We have many like the statues of Madonnas all more expressive than the other.

  • Nice gallery in a beautiful gothic monastery. Paintings from 14-15. century.
  • The Agnes monastery is one of the most important Gothic buildings in Prague. It was founded in the thirties of the 13th century by the Přemyslid princess of St. Anežka Česká together with his brother, King Václav I The tour circuit maps the history of individual parts of the uniquely preserved ground plan of a medieval monastery. All the distinguished spaces, including the Oratory of St. Agnieszky, Sanctuary of the Salvator and the Church of Sts. Frantisek with the Place of Remembrance of King Wenceslas I
  • Overlooked and under appreciated historical sight!! The artwork here is amazing! Of course it is all religious but the colors are so vibrant. Truly an amazing experience and so glad we stumbled upon it. Easily spent 2hrs just walking the convent and taking all the artwork in. The curator should be commended for the display and arrangement.
  • The mideveal art is amazing. Free entry with Prague card.
  • The Saint Agnes Convent near Old Town is a hidden gem. Despite its large size it's easily glossed over as there's so much to see and do. The story of Anges the sister to Duke Václav / Wenceslaus the Good unfolds as you visit the Convent proper which is truly fascinating. The National Gallery which now presents the site to the public have also a wonderful Religious Art exhibition covering the early to later Medieval period. The interpretation throughout the site is so well done it is easy to spend either a short time or much longer time here. We spent three hours here and could have been there longer. There's a wonderful schools room, a chic looking restaurant which we did not have time to try sadly. The facilities where overall were very well designed. If you have a love affair with Prague this is a must to visit .
