Clementinum, Prague

(750+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Combine a classical concert with a guided tour in English of Clementinum, the largest area of historical buildings in the old town. Many of Europe's great astronomers, scientists, musicians, artists, and philosophers have studied and worked here since medieval times. Climb the 68 m (223 ft) high astronomy tower for views of the city center. As you walk around, you'll find two Baroque churches, a Baroque library with ceiling frescos and rare globes, and a mirror chapel. The chapel hosts classical concerts played on its two 18th-century organs. Make Clementinum a centerpiece of your Prague vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Prague travel itinerary planner.

  • My family were there, but the library was closed due to construction. However, we were thrown out very rudely. There were other asian group before us who were treated the same way.  more »
  • The Klementinum is rarely advertised as an important attraction in Prague. As you go over the places to visit in Prague, this impressive library is not among the most important places to go. It´s true...  more »

  • Great place to study with huge study hall just like in Harry Potter movies. The only thing is that you can't eat or even drink there but if you're hungry, there is a buffet outside with quite cheap prices. It also has a beautiful atrium to hangout and chill.
  • The library was being repaired/restored so I didn't get to see it. That's life, you have to maintain them for the next generation so they lose a star for closing it and gain one for protecting the library for future generations. .
  • Not sure if I would go there again. My main objective during my visit was finding the old library you see in all those photos. This was not nearly as easy as you would expect. There is a complete lack of signs and getting around is just confusing. Now, I do recognize that this is supposed to be a library and not a monument, but this is just ridiculous. I believe that the old library I so much wanted to find was under construction in the end. However; I'm still not sure. The website didn't have anything and there were no signs. I did find two things. A whole lot of tiny drawers with weird cards and a study hall filled with about a hundred people, but no sound whatsoever. Would I go there again? Maybe...
  • This place is under reconstruction since December 2016 according to the guy selling tickets outside. I didn't see anything about this on the website, so thought this info may be helpful.dont know when it will open
  • The library is what I was most excited to see as I made my way to Prague. Images of the library from the internet were a source of inspiration on many projects I've worked on in the past. It's rich history and amazing design left me breathless. I've never seen anything like this and I encourage you to take a moment to see this amazing room. And I didn't even mention the awesome view of the city from the tower and astronomical history.
