Clementinum, Prague

(3.8/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Combine a classical concert with a guided tour in English of Clementinum, the largest area of historical buildings in the old town. Many of Europe's great astronomers, scientists, musicians, artists, and philosophers have studied and worked here since medieval times. Climb the 68 m (223 ft) high astronomy tower for views of the city center. As you walk around, you'll find two Baroque churches, a Baroque library with ceiling frescos and rare globes, and a mirror chapel. The chapel hosts classical concerts played on its two 18th-century organs. Make Clementinum a centerpiece of your Prague vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Prague travel itinerary planner.

  • Prague national library klementinum houses, it's really beautiful, but one must not take pictures or go into the room, one can only stand in the doorway, but still it is wildly impressive. The trip up the tower is very exciting, see the old astronomical instruments, and think of our Danish Tycho Brahe had his daily time here. The view is amazing from the top. The last part of the ride up the tower is not for the elderly poor.

  • The library is what I was most excited to see as I made my way to Prague. Images of the library from the internet were a source of inspiration on many projects I've worked on in the past. It's rich history and amazing design left me breathless. I've never seen anything like this and I encourage you to take a moment to see this amazing room. And I didn't even mention the awesome view of the city from the tower and astronomical history.
  • I really enjoyed this tour and appreciate the beauty and longevity of this building, this Chapel, and the fabulous Library, and more. The guides didn't tell me about the many many steps to get up in the tower, but we were able to manage it without too much trouble. Please be aware that it's quite a climb, but the view is well worth it.
  • Very interesting place! You can get a tour inside to see very old library, but sadly ot is not allowed to picture it. You have to keep in mind that there are a lot of steps you would have to go by foot. There is an elevator, but it doesn't go all the way up, so walking is necessary. In the end of the tour you get a nice city view!
  • Overpriced. And you basically standing in front of the room and cant even see everything. I was quite dissapointed. And guide we had avoided questions or her answers were 'i dont know'.
  • The library is one of a kind. Google for pictures instead of reading comments here and you will certainly decide to visit the linrary. Its a shame that they dont let photos to be taken. Only permitted to visit by a scheduled guide. They also tell you about the history and show the astronomical tower. The tower has a great view of the city. If you are interested in astronomy, you will like the guide.
