Castle District, Prague

(5,000+ reviews on the web)
Observation Deck
Overlooking the city from its high point on the left bank of the Vltava River, Castle District contains one of Europe's largest medieval castle complexes. An independent borough until 1784, this neighborhood consists of historical palaces and medieval churches, which guard some of the country's greatest cultural and artistic treasures. Although not as old as Prague's famed old town, the district remains one of the most photographed urban areas in Europe, its centuries-old spires and towers appearing on countless postcards, posters, and tourist brochures. While at the southern end of the district's central square, point your camera toward the rooftops of the old town, visible on the other side of the river. Put Castle District on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Prague family vacation planner.

  • We were on the Castle and had a super view over the whole city, it is worth to look at this. The garden is well maintained and very clean. Were thrilled.

  • Wear comfy shoes. Worth a visit, can get crowded so go early. Transport links a wee bit confusing - we used the tram and followed the crowds-not great signage.  more »
  • It is next to the castle is worth a spin. You will not have to waste a lot of time to visit ... In two steps you'll be at the shrine and monastery, where to have a stunning view of the city is on the river! Walk to where you cant go wrong ...
