The Písek Stone Bridge is the oldest bridge on the area of Czech Republic and one of two oldest bridges in Central Europe, located in south Bohemian city of Písek. It was probably built in the 3rd quarter of the 13th century. It is sometimes called Stag Bridge because, according to legend, it was to be named after the first being to pass over it. At the time, town Písek was surrounded by deep woods, so the first being to cross the bridge was a stag. However, most local people calls it Old Bridge (starý most). It spans the Otava River, a tributary of the Vltava River. This bridge is in the gothic style with baroque statues and a cross. The length of the bridge is 109.75m and the width 6.25m. It is built on six pillars and has seven arches.Floods of 2002The bridge survived the floods in 2002. The flood water removed railings and some statues. After the flood, Písek started with the general reconstruction. The railings and statues were repaired; copy of one statue which was lost was created. The bridge is now supported by a net of concrete and iron tubes.

  • compared to Charles-less and "easier", but older. The bridge is actively used for both everyday life and various events-I caught "running a marathon between two bridges". Beautiful views. Inspires respect love the city in its sights-"the great water" in 2001, the bridge was severely damaged in a flood. And two days after the water subsided, townspeople came out to work for his recovery and raised money. It really is a "national treasure"

  • After the floods again repaired, wonderful view from the bridge and the bridge from all sides. Zamrzela me a little review Paul.-This is the bridge over the Otava River, not the Ohře River! It is worth seeing.

  • The bridge of the town of Pisek, having older than 600 years is the oldest bridge in the Czech Republic (oldest of the Charles Bridge) and the second oldest in Europe above the Alps after the one in Regensburg. The Riverwalk is cute and well kept but rather cute and colorful contemporary buildings lined. The city is nice although the historic center is not large and can be easily reached by the bu from Prague.

  • Great experience, its like a small charles bridge at Prague. No turist at all whichc is always positive :)
  • Unbelievable stone bridge with nice statues
  • Visit Czech Republic visiting Prague is a good plan, but also visiting Písek is the best possible plan. It has a helmet precious historical and the bridge that has, the more old stone in the country, already is worth going just to see it. Such a nice place. I recommend to visit it as much as Prague. The bridge is so wonderful, and the city center too.
