Brewery Historic Site
Discover the birthplace of pilsner beer at Pilsner Urquell Brewery, located less than an hour southwest of Prague. Dating back to the 1840s, the brewery is the country's biggest exporter of domestically produced beer. Guided tours, the only way to enter the brewery, reveal the origins of the world-famous lager, produced for nearly 170 years using a recipe originally created by Bavarian master brewer Josef Groll. The tour offers you a chance to see the brewery's bottling plant and historical cellars, where you can taste unfiltered and unpasteurized pilsner beer poured from oak barrels. Check online for tour options and reserve your tickets by phone or e-mail. • Admittedly didn't do the brewery tour, I've done so many, but wandered around, visited the shop, visitor centre, and drank at the outdoor and indoor bars. Wasn't too impressed with the menu (or servic...  more »

  • The brewery tour is totally worth it. No long, boring explanations but brief brewing theory with a very modern exhibition where you can taste all the ingredients. Visit of botteling facility and brewing house. Also they show a short, well-made video about history, which is pretty interesting to watch. Finally beer tasting in the cellars is a cool experience and if you're quick you might get a second one ;)
  • Tour is pretty normal. But the cellars are worth visiting. Bring a jacket because it gets quote cold down there. The unfiltered Pilsner is worth it.
  • I was introduced to Pilsner Urquell in the summer of 2010 in Toronto, Canada! A Czech guy asked me to try it and I did...4 times in about 20 mins!! Needless to say, I love it but it's not available in my homeland of Barbados! I usually have to wait until I visit Toronto (once a year) or have someone bring me a couple of cans occasionally. Must be the best beer in the world, if it isn't it's still my favourite! Never stop making this stuff!!!!!
  • Boring. Maybe if the guide had been better..she could hardly speak english. You spend 15 minutes in the cold caves and nobody warned me to bring a sweater. The beer tasting is a glass with 70% foam and 30% beer. Not that much to see.
  • Went for the English tour and had the worst tour guide I've had this trip - David. He spoke way too fast (in hard to understand English), didn't wait for the whole tour group before he began in each section of the tour, and was incredibly unpersonable and monotone. I was very disappointed in what could have been a good tour!
