Trip Planner: Europe / Czech Republic / Moravia / Vysocina Region / Nedvedice / Historic Sites / Pernstejn Castle
Pernštejn Castle is a castle located on a rock above the village of Nedvědice and the rivers Svratka and Nedvědička, some 40 km northwest of Brno, in the South Moravian Region, Czech Republic. Pernštejn came to be known as the marble castle because of the marble-like stone used to frame the doors and windows. It was founded by the Lords of Medlov probably between 1270–1285. The family branch seated at the castle and adopted the then fashionable name Pernštejn, which is the Czech version probably derived of the German name, Bärenstein – the "Bear Rock". Its history is closely connected to the Lords of Pernštejn (Pernštejnové) and their descendants. It has kept its intact appearance in the Gothic and Renaissance form as it was finished in the first half of the 16th century by the Pernštejns, then the richest and most powerful lordly family of the Czech kingdom. Pernštejn is one of the best preserved castles in Czech Republic.A visit to Pernstejn Castle represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Nedvedice vacation planner to plot your vacation.

We visited in March, so the castle was still closed for the season, but it was still worth the trip from Brno. Can recommend the steep "park" outside the main gate. more »
Практически в каждое свое путешествие в Чехию я стараюсь посмотреть очередное фортификационное сооружение: Звиков и Орлик, Раби и Швигов – всё они оставили определённый отпечаток в моих воспоминания. ... more »Almost every trip to the Czech Republic I try to view another fortification: Zvikov and Orlik, Rabi and Shvigov are all they have left a definite imprint in my memories. Another Czech trip marked "acquaintance" with another extremely interesting fortress construction-Castle Pernstejn (Hrad Pernštejn). Castle is situated on a high Rocky Hill, densely overgrown with mixed plantings, above the river Svratka, southwest of the village of Nedvědice. The severity and the power of the fortress there is even approaching it: successfully chosen location (with relief), bend of the River, which is kind of a natural element of the defence, steep rocky ledges at the foot of the walls, good viewed from above-all this says, they say, before you, the traveler, the Castle-fortress, Castle-Warrior! Alas, late November (according to official information, the fortress is open to visitors from April to October) in the evening, Gates hail were securely locked (though they have funny voices and clear glass tinkling sound may be heard). So I had to settle for an external inspection of the Castle-after the path to the left of the Castle Gate Fortress wall, I prodiralsja through bushland, periodically stopping and trying to zafotat' any fall in lens fortification of interestingness. If fate once again moves me in Jihomoravskij Krai, I necessarily try to look at it from the inside. and Pernstejn Waving goodbye to hand another Saint, whose monument is set on the side of the driveway (to lock) roads, we have gone further.
В Моравии, недалеко от Брно, есть крепость тринадцатого века- Пернштейн. Этот замок, один из немногих, которые дошли до нашего времени в наиболее сохранённом виде. С верхушки "Рогатой" башни открывает... more »In Moravia, near Brno, there is a 13th century fortress-Pernstejn. This castle, one of the few that have reached our time in most saved form. From the top "Horned" Tower offers a great view of the surrounding natural beauty! Very interesting move on this tower, uzen'komu wooden bridge. It is a pity that in the premises of the Castle are not allowed to take pictures. Part of the premises of the castle looks like this, as they were in the 15th century (kitchen and some other premises), the majority of halls and rooms have views, which they adopted much later, 18th century. Very interesting to compare. Of all the castles that we have for 4 years visited in the Czech Republic (and they are many), this is perhaps the most interesting. On examination it is possible to submit "as it was then,"
One of my all time favorite castles. This Gothic castle was build in 13th century. The castle is very well preserved and the tour is very interesting.
One of the most important, biggest and most beautiful medieval castles in this region. Well-preserved. Visit recommended!
Good castle from middle age. Prefer for people who came to Czech Republic and want to know about historic of Moravia. There is excursion inside of castle for 7 euro (summertime 2016).
Must see if you stay longer time in CZ. One of the most famous castle. Guided tour to the interior and real medieval atmosphere. Relaxing environment. Entrance fee is bit high.
