Trip Planner: Europe / Czech Republic / Bohemia / Central Bohemian Region / Kutna Hora / St Barbara's Church
Famous for its eye-catching spires and well-preserved medieval frescoes, St Barbara's Church counts among the finest Gothic structures in all of Europe, and is inscribed on the World Heritage List. Construction started in 1380 and continued for nearly three centuries, until the silver in the local mine began to run out in the 1550s. Finally completed in the 19th century, the building features ribbed vaulting and several side chapels, noted for their wall murals depicting everyday scenes from the life of a thriving medieval mining town. Take a good look at the frescoes, but don't forget to visit the cathedral's east terrace, offering panoramic views of the city. St Barbara's Church reviews
Beautiful both day and night. Like every stunning cathedral, this does not disappoint. Worth the visit. more »
Biig beautiful church of St. Barbara (patroness of all miners, because Kutná Hora was mining town) which is worth visiting. The admission 160 CZK seems to me quite high, better is to buy for 220 CZK..... more »
If visiting Prague, Kutna hora is a must to visit. and if you are in Kutna Hora, this place is worth visiting. The place behind the church is an idle location for photoshoot with a magnificent view. more »
Beautiful Cathedral. It was renovated during last few years so now you can get pictures and all the views in best condition. Nowadays they renovate statues in promenade from back side of Cathedral. Atmosphere in this place is just lovely. When you go down the promenade you will find many nice shops and good restaurants. Definitely don't forget to visit mine of silver. They will take you down to underground and you are gonna love that.
Such a awesome cathedral! At day and night the building and the garden are beautiful. Also inside it's beautiful and nice to see the history.
Great history about this cathedral and the silver mines which paid for it. For over 100 years it was left domaint. It has been maintained now a days
Interesting story behind it - but that's it. Yes it is a nice building but not anything over the top. A lot of the interior is newer things or reproductions.
Structure of Cathedral is fab but the baroque bits turn me cold. At least the interior hasn't been painted yellow.
