Ossuary / The Cemetery Church, Kutna Hora

(4.2/5 based on 1,800+ reviews on the web)
An example of one of the more unusual ways to store and display human remains, Ossuary / The Cemetery Church is a small chapel located beneath what is likely the oldest cemetery in Central Europe. The ossuary contains at least 40,000 human skeletons arranged in bizarre shapes that resemble chandeliers, pyramids, crosses, and coats of arms. These strange chapel decorations, the work of a 19th-century master builder named Frantisek Rint, contain skulls and bones previously disinfected and bleached in chlorinated lime. A chilling reminder of the fleetingness of human life, this World Heritage-listed site attracts a quarter of a million people each year. You can reach it by minibus running from Kutna Hora town center. • Is a place impressive, all the bones that the make up are so well preserved. It feels very cold while there. What more I was surprised was the part central, that simulates as if were a candlestick, but all with bones. It is worth visiting it.
