Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web
An example of one of the more unusual ways to store and display human remains, Ossuary / The Cemetery Church is a small chapel located beneath what is likely the oldest cemetery in Central Europe. The ossuary contains at least 40,000 human skeletons arranged in bizarre shapes that resemble chandeliers, pyramids, crosses, and coats of arms. These strange chapel decorations, the work of a 19th-century master builder named Frantisek Rint, contain skulls and bones previously disinfected and bleached in chlorinated lime. A chilling reminder of the fleetingness of human life, this World Heritage-listed site attracts a quarter of a million people each year. You can reach it by minibus running from Kutna Hora town center. • Absolutely unique place with the bones of the deceased that decorate the entire ceiling ... to see why it is an almost unique experience

  • That is an unusual Cemetery Church. I've never seen something like that before. Must-visit! There are skeletons almost everywhere.
  • The tour we took focused on the famous "Bone Church" where close to 40,000 peoples bones were used to decorate the church. A bit macabre, but definitely worth seeing.
