Ossuary / The Cemetery Church, Kutna Hora

Cemetery
An example of one of the more unusual ways to store and display human remains, Ossuary / The Cemetery Church is a small chapel located beneath what is likely the oldest cemetery in Central Europe. The ossuary contains at least 40,000 human skeletons arranged in bizarre shapes that resemble chandeliers, pyramids, crosses, and coats of arms. These strange chapel decorations, the work of a 19th-century master builder named Frantisek Rint, contain skulls and bones previously disinfected and bleached in chlorinated lime. A chilling reminder of the fleetingness of human life, this World Heritage-listed site attracts a quarter of a million people each year. You can reach it by minibus running from Kutna Hora town center. • Until the chapel went on foot from the train station. We did a day trip by train from Czech Republic. Is the Chapel is small, but is impressive.

  • A church with bones all over the place from over 40,000 people are special. A must see it to believe it. It's made images and stacks of bones all over the place, a chandelier in the human bones. It is not markabert, but especially.

  • It's not the place that most people like to stay long, but we have to agree that it is at least curious, were doing some digging on the day we went.
