Saint Barbara's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Kutná Hora in the style of a Cathedral, and is sometimes referred to as the Cathedral of St Barbara . It is one of the most famous Gothic churches in central Europe and it is a UNESCO world heritage site. St Barbara is the patron saint of miners, which was highly appropriate for a town whose wealth was based entirely upon its silver mines.Construction began in 1388, but because work on the church was interrupted several times, it was not completed until 1905. The first architect was probably Johann Parler, son of Peter Parler. Work on the building was interrupted for more than 60 years during the Hussite Wars and when work resumed in 1481, Matěj Rejsek, Benedikt Rejt and Mikuláš Parler, assumed responsibility. The original design was for a much larger church, perhaps twice the size of the present building. Construction, however, depended on the prosperity of the town's silver mines, which became much less productive. So, in 1588, the three-peaked roof had been completed, and a provisional wall was constructed. A little later it was occupied by Jesuits who gradually changed the structure into Baroque style, though parts still remain in Gothic style.

  • In Kutná Hora were long ago and came out with a mass of negative emotions. Indeed, some perverted brain thought of bones do the Interior of the Church. Our attitude has changed dramatically after viewing the story, where in one of the cities on the site of the zabroshenogo cemetery built residential area. There the bones just bulldozer shovel into a heap and was taken to the dump. Here is a really perverted brain! And Frantisek He PUT soul and gave a new existence zabroshenym, useless remnants! Honor and praise him! It is this rethinking and pushed me to write this review, reconsider old photo and get the same pleasure of visiting this fascinating Places

  • Kostnicu, Museum of human bones and skulls, adorning the kladbishchenskuju Chapel in the tiny Czech town Kutna Hora, visited in January 2017. An eerie place. 40 thousand skulls, of which 30 thousand people have died from the plague in the middle ages. 10 thousands died during the Hussite wars. We were like you, you'll be such as we ... Such motto hanging in this Chapel. And the coat of arms of rich bone family Shtenbergov. The Czechs have the theme of death smakuetsja vibrantly ... As so-to come to the Czech Republic and visit charnel house! 75 EEK per person for groups entrance, 95 CZK for individual tourists.

  • The description of the Church saying well everything, decorated by the bones of 40,000 people, it can be a special experience? As anatomiintresserad I was fascinated to see all skeleton parts, and they have really kombinerads to the most beautiful objects like chandeliers and other ornamentation. The Church is small, and not many coaches to fill it. So don't expect to get the look alone, but rather to feel in the way of somebody all the time. Have you seen most things in Prague or to explore the countryside, it is a fun excursion. With limited time, it may not be worth the extra trip.

  • Amazing architecture, and to be able to build such a stunning building so long ago. Really makes you take a step back! A must see.
  • Simply amazing building, inside and outside. You can walk to the Breuerovy Sady and take a look to the building from there as well.
  • Beautiful church in Kutna Hora. A must visit. Get the ticket for all monuments and save money. Student discounts available.
  • The church itself is just another Church I've been to. What makes it stand out is the location. You get very nice views from it watching either Kutná Hora or just woods surrounding it from the other side.
