Kasperk Castle, Kasperske Hory
Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Kašperk Castle is a medieval castle placed in southwestern Bohemia (modern Czech Republic, former Crown of Bohemia). It is said to be the most highly located royal castle in Bohemia (its elevation is 886 metres above sea level). The castle is in property of the Town of Kašperské Hory since 1616.HistoryKašperk Castle was founded in 1356 by Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia Charles IV to protect Czech borders. Historians and scholars believe the castle was built, primarily, for three reasons. The first was about security. Bohemia needed to bolster their border defense against Bavaria. Secondly, the castle's location was chosen so as to allow for absolute control over the gold-rich region near Kašperské Hory. The third reason for building Kašperk Castle was because Kašperk lay in the path of the "Golden Route," a trade route that connected Bohemia and Bavaria to the affluent areas of western Europe.A royal castle in name and status, the Kašperk Castle, however, had no royal occupant. The castle was given over to the king's pledge holders. Along with the castle, the occupant of the Kašperk castle also received from the king the authority over administrative and judicial matters in the region of Prácheň, which encompassed a significant part of southwestern Bohemia. The Kašperk Castle's first pledge holders were the second archbishop of Prague and the first Czech cardinal, Jan Očko of Vlašim. From 1411–1454 Kašperk Castle was in the hands of the house of Zmrzlík of Svojšín and Orlík. The father and son of this house, both named Peter, oversaw a relatively peaceful time in the castle's history. Peter, the father, was a royal moneyer. He and his son were followers of Utraquism, which was also endorsed by the Hussite. It was this allegiance of the Peters that the Hussites never attacked the castle. The younger Peter, on the other hand, made numerous raids on the neighboring catholic Bavaria.Arrange to visit Kasperk Castle and other attractions in Kasperske Hory using our Kasperske Hory trip builder.

Kašperk je pěkný hrad, i když přiznávám, že jsem při této návštěvě nebyla na žádném z prohlídkových okruhů a nemůžu posoudit, jak byl interiér od mé poslední návštěvy před lety upraven. Ale i cesta je... read more »Kašperk Castle is nice, although I admit that I am on this visit was not on any of the dishware and I can't judge how was Interior since my last visit a few years ago. But the path is the goal, I went to the Castle from the center of Kašperské Hory, which is pleasant, even in places a bit more challenging walk (a lot of uphill:)). I miss the left view of the Kašperk and Bohemian Forest from the nearby ruins of a castle.show original
The castle is OK, but its quite small. The guided tour divided in two separate circuits doesn't make sense, because there is very little to show and not so much to say. Unless it's a question of money... read more »
Hrad Kašperk jsem letos navštívil poprvé, hned dvakrát, a doufám, že to nebylo naposledy. Je to místo skutečně malebné a krásné. Absolvovali jsme noční prohlídku a druhý den klasický okruh. Z první jm... read more »I visited the Castle Kašperk this year for the first time, twice, and I hope that it was not the last time. It is a place truly a picturesque and beautiful. We passed the night tour, and the second day classic circuit. From the first appointed tours I have a bad impression of only girls, 16/7/2016 served in the evening box office. It was very annoying. What a surprise the next day, the same lady was helpful and willingness alone. And for great plus I find that the castle is from the car park can be reached only by foot, a beautiful walk. Then after going out of the forest emerges on the horizon, the Majesty of the Castle, it's something amazing. I believe that the Kašperk ever I go.show original
Beautiful little castle and surroundings. Too bad it is closed on mondays during the pre- and late season! So keep that in mind when you want to come here. It may anger you a little bit after paying 5 € for the parking, which is expensive for czech standards.
Superb castle in amazing location. Well worth the walk
Příjemná procházka z parkoviště. Hrad je na svojí historii překvapivě dochovalý. Doporučuji jít okruh stavba hradu.
