Kost Castle, Jicin
(4.4/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web)
Kost Castle is located in the Jičín District of the Czech Republic.Kost Castle lies in Northern Bohemia, specifically the region Bohemian Paradise (Český Ráj) and is privately owned by Kinský dal Borgo noble family It was first proposed by Beneš von Wartenberg in 1349 as a possible construction site and was completed by his son Peter von Wartenberg. It retains most of the original features and is overall very well preserved and maintained. The castle is known for its so-called "White tower" (Bílá Věž). In about 1414 the family of Zajíc von Hasenburg moved there; later the family of Schellenberg (1497 - 1524), Lobkowicz (till 1576) and others; in this time some more buildings were built near the castle and joined to it.Unlike most other castles in Bohemia, it does not lie on a hill, but on a spit between two brooks. Another peculiarity is the tower, which has a trapezoid-like ground-plan. The trapezoidal tower has the corners facing the areas of most likely catapult attacks. This is to make the missiles glance off the tower walls instead of hitting it headon thereby minimizing the damage.

  • A trip to this castle was combined with a visit to Economic paradise. The ancient castle, is well preserved. It collected a good collection of historical weapons, hunting trophies, kitchen utensils. The castle can be visited only with a guided tour, which takes place in the Czech language. The guide was with us, who translated to Russian. Not to say that the impression on five points, but four solid.

  • This castle, I would recommend to those who want to see the well-preserved castle with unique fortifications and to those who want to eat high quality Czech Classics (roast knee, chicken thighs with homemade pastries). This castle has quite an impressive ruins just an improvised torture chamber.

  • Perfectly preserved Castle is in private ownership, a nobleman living in Italy. The grand tour lasts 1.5 hours and really worth it to go through. The Castle has a perfectly equipped torture chamber and the collection of arms is unique. The perfect interpretation of I still haven't experienced on any Castle. Food in the restaurant below the castle is perfect for favourable prices, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I was very satisfied and full day trip worth it.
