Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, Brno

Religious Site Tourist Spot
Climb to the top of the bell towers of Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, which always ring at 11 a.m. rather than noon as a nod to a tale of subterfuge during the Thirty Years' War. Stone balconies that are nearly 84 m (276 ft) high offer views over the city. The cathedral was erected on the site of a much earlier Romanesque chapel in 1777. Its Neo-Gothic facade is the work of 20th-century architect August Kirstein. Look for a quotation from Matthew's gospel written above the main entrance, which invites all hardworking people to find peace inside the church. The Baroque interior is complemented with high ceilings and stained-glass windows. The cathedral also features a medieval crypt. • This cathedral is located only five minutes by walk from the main square and it's worth visiting. It is free to go inside and if you want to climb to the tower (84 meters high), you have to buy a tick...  more »
  • Inside is nice, but in the evening, like other churches, beautifully in lights, cozy. The highest point of the city centre of Brno. A walk in the surrounding streets, alleyways and little Prague to get our mind, not by accident.

  • The exterior of the cathedral is amazing, the inside perhaps a little less so. It's definitely worth going up to the top to get beautiful views over the city but the tiny side entrance for this means it's easily missed! Costs little over £1 to see the treasury (couple of small rooms with some items belonging to the cathedral) then walk up the stairs to the bell towers and balconies. Best at sunset in my opinion : )
  • Cathedral that is the symbol of the city. If will be approaching Brno from Bratislava, you can see the Cathedral kilometers away. And if you are lucky, wait for choirs to sing. The acoustic is just humbling. Magical place.
  • Amazing gothic architecture, there is a free city tour in Brno where they explain the church's story
  • Beautiful church. Make sure you visit the tower with amazing view on city center and Spilberk castle
  • It's beautiful there, at least the view worth it.
