Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, Brno

(4.6/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Climb to the top of the bell towers of Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, which always ring at 11 a.m. rather than noon as a nod to a tale of subterfuge during the Thirty Years' War. Stone balconies that are nearly 84 m (276 ft) high offer views over the city. The cathedral was erected on the site of a much earlier Romanesque chapel in 1777. Its Neo-Gothic facade is the work of 20th-century architect August Kirstein. Look for a quotation from Matthew's gospel written above the main entrance, which invites all hardworking people to find peace inside the church. The Baroque interior is complemented with high ceilings and stained-glass windows. The cathedral also features a medieval crypt.
