High in the Troodos Mountains, see the lavish Kykkos Monastery (Panagia tou Kykkou), known for its priceless relics and icons of the Orthodox world. Founded in the 11th century, the complex burned down a number of times and has lost most of its books and treasures. Only one icon of the Virgin Mary--which has been connected to frequent miraculous occurrences--has survived, and it's kept hidden in the monastery and put out on very rare occasions during prayers. Take the time to visit the monastery's vivid interiors, lined with brightly colored murals, and tour the museum that holds collections of pre-Christian, early Christian, and Byzantine antiques, ornaments, manuscripts, and frescoes as well as 15,000 books. Make Kykkos Monastery (Panagia tou Kykkou) a part of your Pedoulas vacation plans using our Pedoulas itinerary builder.

Tour operator we invited a lot of excursions, from which we chose tour "Orthodox heritage of Cyprus. Our trip started c visit the parish church of St. Cyprian and St. Iustin′i in the village of Meniko. In the Temple of the relics of these Saints, beats a curative source and is the miraculous icon of witchcraft and the evil eye. Here we were met by a priest, who recited a special prayer "from the evil eye," anointed us the Holy oil, as well as venerated the relics we Kipriâna and Iustin′i, obtained the holy water from the spring. Next we headed to the men's St. Kikkskij monastery. This monastery is located high in the Troodos Mountains, so dear to him quite difficult. A long circling on the serpentine, to climb to this wonderful place. View mountain road framed by forests and slopes are simply stunning. Upon arrival at the monastery, we primarily offered to visit the souvenir shops and Orthodox, where you can buy icons, amulets and various souvenirs. To visit the monastery should be closed shoulders and knees. Those who were dressed inappropriately, issued blue bathrobe. The monastery buildings belong to different epochs. In the Center there is a temple. Around it are built different edifice: the House of the priest, the Cathedral room, monks ' cells, library, Museum, etc. Initially the monastery was made of wood, but after few fires it was rebuilt completely in stone. Inside the walls of the monastery are decorated with splendid frescoes. There is also a Museum of Kykkos monastery, but it is paid. In the monastery is the wonderworking icon of the Theotokos, was written, according to legend, St. Apostle and evangelist Luke during her life. In 1795 year icon was decorated with a silver frame that completely covers her image, and he has not been seen since. But hang copies of the icons. We saw only the bottom part of the silver, the top salary icon closed velvet cloth. Taking pictures inside the temple, you cannot. We withstood quite a large place to venerate the holy icon. Also there is a monastery, where the relics of the Saints. Coming from Kikkosa through the village of pedoulas Prodromos-the Alpine villages of Cyprus-we went to the monastery of the Theotokos Troodosskoj, where the icon of Panagia Trooditissy believers can pray for healing of infertility. We went to the temple, venerated the icon, visited the monastery shop and collected water from the source of healing. Overall, the tour was interesting and informative. We get to know this country, its history, saw her shrines. Of course, the path here and came hard, but worth it to spend one day. Impressions of excursions will stay with us for life.
