St. Solomon's Catacombs, Paphos

Categories: Ruins, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
2.9/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web
Tour the ancient passageways and tombs of St. Solomon's Catacombs, the remains of an underground church with 12th-century frescoes and a holy water site. Some researchers have shown that the area was used as a burial place during the Hellenistic era. View the dark, humid chamber where people prayed many centuries ago (and some still do). Look for a large tree that grows from the structure's walls: tying a ribbon around its branch will improve your health, according to a local legend. The lack of historical data for this site makes it a place of mystery, and a special spot for the locals. To visit St. Solomon's Catacombs on your trip to Paphos, use our Paphos holiday planner.
