St. Solomon's Catacombs, Paphos
(2.9/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Tour the ancient passageways and tombs of St. Solomon's Catacombs, the remains of an underground church with 12th-century frescoes and a holy water site. Some researchers have shown that the area was used as a burial place during the Hellenistic era. View the dark, humid chamber where people prayed many centuries ago (and some still do). Look for a large tree that grows from the structure's walls: tying a ribbon around its branch will improve your health, according to a local legend. The lack of historical data for this site makes it a place of mystery, and a special spot for the locals. To visit St. Solomon's Catacombs on your trip to Paphos, use our Paphos holiday planner.

  • Visited extreme times in September 2016. Lived at Novel 3 *, which is nearby. Catacombs-interesting place for independent visits. Entrance-tree with the years (you can tie and make a wish). Admission is free and free.

  • You will know you have reached the Catacombs when you see the Handkerchief Tree. If you hang one on the tree it is supposed to bring you good luck for the year, or so I understand. It is free to visit...  more »
