St. Solomon's Catacombs, Paphos

(2.9/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Tour the ancient passageways and tombs of St. Solomon's Catacombs, the remains of an underground church with 12th-century frescoes and a holy water site. Some researchers have shown that the area was used as a burial place during the Hellenistic era. View the dark, humid chamber where people prayed many centuries ago (and some still do). Look for a large tree that grows from the structure's walls: tying a ribbon around its branch will improve your health, according to a local legend. The lack of historical data for this site makes it a place of mystery, and a special spot for the locals. To visit St. Solomon's Catacombs on your trip to Paphos, use our Paphos holiday planner.

  • Not well maintained, the bits of cloth tied to the tree must have meant a lot to the people placung them but look tatty and old now....how some of them were placed i dont know. Interesting to see but ...  more »
  • Place the left dual impression. On the one hand, it is the remains of an underground Christian Church and a very interesting place (to visit open only a small part of the catacombs). On the other hand, all those stupid ispoganeno ribbons imposed everywhere-on the tree, on the grate. Scarves, rags, plastic bags, even socks. All for the sake of fulfilling! This is what we need to desire to have a place to hang ragged melting?

  • It was amazing to see the structure still standing and accessible after so many centuries. Need to be careful climbing steps but its worth going into and its free!  more »
