Paphos Harbour Castle, Paphos

3.1
At the edge of Paphos Seafront walkway, the robust, cube-shaped Paphos Harbour Castle served the Byzantine Empire, the Lusignans, the Ottomans, the Greeks, and the English. The medieval castle was rebuilt twice--once after an earthquake in 1222 and again at the end of the 16th century. It also served as a storage area for salt. Enter the castle by crossing an old bridge over a small pond, and then climb the stairs inside to reach the top. From here you'll get some of the best views of the seafront and the Mediterranean Sea. • A wander along the harbour past the long line of bars, restaurants and souvenirs gets you to the sea edge and this unremarkable but still quite historical monument. Not wishing to disrespect anyone...  more »
  • Impressive view - after the castle in Lisbon this is one of my "Water Castles". The beauty of the Sea surrounding the castle and the bay. You can visit two floors of the castle and then walk up to...  more »
  • The castle is on the edge of pedestrian area next to the sea. A lot of street sellers near the castle. The ticket is cheap but the enterior is poor and the castle is very small just two floors.  more »

  • it says castle here but its really a fort - and then again why it is even called a fort is not quite clear - the only thing worth looking at around this place - if you are wondering around the harbour area and feel you need to get out of the heat a little and not have to sit in a restaurant for it, then you can buy a ticket and get in - nothing much to look at - but it will pass your time for at least 30 minutes or so - a little wind on the top is good - little better views around
  • Great place to visit very historic, careful with small children but is family friendly (we visited with our 3 Yr old). Beautiful view of the harbour (good location to launch a drone).
  • Just off the harbour area. Need to pay to look around inside not to expensive. View's of harbour area are very good.
  • The Castle is located front of the sea and the Paphos port. The price for adults is 2,5€. On the ground floor there is exposure photos on the marine life of the Island and apparently few rooms used as prison. The best part is on the first floor, walking on the roof and enjoying the view of the city, the port and the Mediterranean Sea. My suggestion is to go there in the evening, when the Sun sets. It was my favorite building in the city. Thank you Paphos.
  • This historical castle is actually a fort. Located at the end of the promenade , its not the largest nor the most impressive of forts. Admission isnt expensive, so if you decide to go in, dont miss the views overlooking the harbor and the mediterranean sea. An option to escape the heat ..
