Limassol Castle, Limassol

(3.8/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Nestled right among upbeat cafes and restaurants, Limassol Castle stands tall, reminiscent of the days of the Byzantine Kingdom, Lusignan rulers, and King Richard the Lionheart. Believed to have been built over an early Christian basilica, the present-day edifice dates back to the year 1590. Burned and looted by the Genoese, the Egyptians, and the Venetians, and shaken by powerful earthquakes, the castle was finally rebuilt by the Ottomans and served as a prison until 1950. Today you can visit a medieval museum inside the castle, with exhibits depicting the economic, social, and cultural development of Cyprus from the 3rd to the 18th century. • Exposition of the castle is rather informative, quite well developed and kept. Good location, good restaurants just next to the castle, at the very centre of old town of Limassol. Definitely worth to ...  more »
  • Small, inexpensive cafes around the obrasla fortress and already starovatymi buildings. In fact, the feeling that this Fort just smack between buildings. Not even depart at distance to look and feel its beauty. So not really. If not visit nothing lose.

  • Limassol crusader castle. Much to see , armory, chapel, tombstones ,jail cells , etc. and all in this ingenious designed tree floored defense quarter. Great view to the sea from the top.
  • Such a nice place especially during the evening and for a night out. Full of life and restaurants
  • Basic Roman fortification but also has fully reconstructed wine press on site which is fascinating. The grounds are also beautiful and well cared for.
  • A nice little museum, but tickets are expensive. Medieval attributes, gravestones and a skeleton in addition. A view from the roof is not so beautiful, but it is interesting.
  • Amazing medieval castle showing you the medieval history of this beautiful island
