Saint Lazarus Church, Larnaka City

Saint Lazarus Church has stood for over 1,000 years through lootings, destruction, and fires, thanks to centuries of work and restoration. According to Orthodox beliefs, the church is the resting place of Lazarus of Bethany--a man raised from the dead by Jesus Christ--who was forced to escape from Judea and chose to hide in Cyprus, where he died 30 years later for the second time. See this 31.5 m (103 ft) wide and 14.5 m (48 ft) tall church with three domes, featuring three internal aisles with bulky double pillars. Observe the wood and golden 18th-century iconostasis, which was heavily damaged by fire in 1970. • In Cyprus it is enough boring and a little sightseeing. What am I? Even if here was like in Barcelona, nor sit down, don't get up everywhere attractions-this place is still worth your attention in the first few days! Where the Tomb in the basement-very hot, so long there is not possible (for people aged, and simply those who are claustrophobic, or anyone just constantly stuffy))) there are kranchik with holy water, or glass or bottle with you if you want to drink. Put a candle, gave donations. Sit there for 5 minutes to think about than good. embrace. For the ladies there are skirts at the entrance free

  • Very well preserved example of churches of its era, still being in use while beautifying the square of the limestone paved backstreets of old Larnaca  more »
  • Beautiful inside and outside architecture. Very interesting items inside to see even the tomb of St Lazarus.  more »

  • A very beautiful Church. I love to come here and just look at the people and everything around here. Everything's busy, but not in a stressed out way. The church itself is quite beautiful although i have never been inside.
  • One of the only real sights in the city, it's eye catching and worth taking a look inside. Watch your head if you go down into the crypt.
  • This is a beautiful historic Church which is a manifestation of many miracles of God. See John 11:38-44.
  • Historical, good atmosphere. Great place to go for any tourist.
  • Romantic location. Exciting history.

Where to stay in Larnaka City

A small city, Larnaka's activity and accommodations center around its palm tree-lined seafront. Hotels and apartments on or near the busy main promenade provide easy access to the beach and the area's most popular restaurants; however, this convenience often comes with an increased price tag. Budget-conscious visitors should look for a room on the outskirts, where most of the city's main attractions will still be within walking distance (generally involving a pleasant stroll along the beach), although popping back to your room for forgotten beach supplies will not be as easy.
