Larnaka Salt Lake, Larnaka City
(3.4/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
If you discover chunks of salt emerging from the earth, you may be at Larnaka Salt Lake. This spot serves as a migration point for pink flamingos, and it's home to Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque. Here you'll find a crystal-clear lake reflecting an image of one of the holiest shrines of Ottoman Islam surrounded by palm trees and flamingos--a common image at the site. Stretching across 1,585 hectares (3,920 acres) of scrubland, the lake hosts over 80 species of birds. The lake used to provide vast amounts of salt to the locals. During the dry months now, the entire place turns into a mixture of gray dust and piles of crusted salt. Take a look at our Larnaka City travel itinerary planner to schedule your visit to Larnaka Salt Lake and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • It was the first time we saw flamingos, and they come quiet close to the shores, so it was really interesting.
  • Too bad I saw the Flamingo only from afar. But I think in autumn and winter periods you can see many.

  • Now, in mid-December, the birds have not yet been made. But how was beautiful here in February, when the winter arrives a tremendous amount of pink flamingos! In sunny weather, the Lake reflects the mountains, clouds, houses. On the shore is very ancient mosque, which pride themselves on the locals. From Larnaca on foot I'd go probably not recommended. On the way from the airport we stayed near the entrance to the mosque. You can get out, walk, sit in the shade of the trees, the next bus depart to Larnaca. An unusual place to visit during the arrival of birds (in the summer this place is a desert).
