Hala Sultan Tekke, Larnaka City

4.0
#2 of 6 in Historic Sites in Larnaka City
See Hala Sultan Tekke, an Islamic complex with a mosque, mausoleum, and a cemetery located alongside a salt lake. The cemetery dates back to the Bronze Age, two millennia BCE. According to popular belief, the remains of the Prophet Mohammed's foster mother also lies at the site. For that reason, it is considered one the highly sacred Muslim shrines of the world. Admire the pristine setting of the lake and the complex's subtropical landscape. To visit Hala Sultan Tekke and other attractions in Larnaka City, use our Larnaka City tour app .

  • As I understand it, this is one of the top ten important sites in Islam. Mohammad's wet nurse was here. It's a beautiful mosque in any event and right next to the salt flats with gorgeous pink flaming...  more »
  • The side of the mosque in a large barn with no two walls lives several hundred cats a variety of coloring. Who loves cats can buy food and feed them.

  • This quiet mosque, next to the salt lake in Larnaca, houses the tomb of Umm Haram and is considered the third-most holy place for Muslims. There is also a small Bronze Age site nearby.  more »

  • Hala Sultan Tekke is very important for the Muslims and used visiting and praying. It is wonderful place for visiting and realizing different caltures in Cyprus. O still do not understand the reason of so many beautiful cats around Hala Sultan Tekke.
  • Nice place, shows the history and culture of the city It could use a lot of improvement though to make it more suitable for tours A small place but very clean and spiritually enriching Has public toilets for visitors also And you can use water at the ablution spot to wash up and clean your hands after you play with the cats Cats, plenty of cats, perfect for cat lovers :)) Has parking
  • Well worth a visit. But most tourist come to visit the colony of cats. Locals come and feed them. The Mosque is also ok.
  • A little cute place with a nearby dried out lake. It was an experience to walk through somewhere there water had been before .
  • A holy place for Muslim religion, with a positive energy felt by any man, regardless of religion, when he steps into the mosque. Certainly the woman who is buried there is a saint and she pours her positive energy on any man, regardless of religion. An objective that should not be missed if you visit Larnaca!

Where to stay in Larnaka City

A small city, Larnaka's activity and accommodations center around its palm tree-lined seafront. Hotels and apartments on or near the busy main promenade provide easy access to the beach and the area's most popular restaurants; however, this convenience often comes with an increased price tag. Budget-conscious visitors should look for a room on the outskirts, where most of the city's main attractions will still be within walking distance (generally involving a pleasant stroll along the beach), although popping back to your room for forgotten beach supplies will not be as easy.
