Saint Hilarion Castle, Kyrenia
(4.7/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Nestled high in the rocky mountain tops overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the ruins of Saint Hilarion Castle feature crumbling walls, Byzantine ornaments, and 100 km (60 mi) views. Although the exact construction date is unknown, the castle and a former monastery are estimated to be about 1,000 years old. Serving as a royal home with economic units, stables, and military quarters, the site survived until the Venetian arrival in the 15th century, when it was dismantled. You'll discover dark, mysterious tunnels and preserved church elements here. Don't miss the arch overlooking the sea, which makes a great photo spot. A visit to Saint Hilarion Castle represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Kyrenia tour planner to plot your vacation.

  • amazing views out to the sea and the castle is a beautiful place to explore. limited parking and a small cafe and toilets.
  • Great views of the Castle. Entry 4 €/7 ₺. I don't recommend it for a rainy day. The entrance to the Castle and top cafe. On the way to the Castle, as well as slip resistant walking shoes I suggest you take your. If the old (if you are not the sport) or foot if you have discomfort so I don't recommend because it's a tough track. You should allocate at least 1.5 hours to the Castle. Transportation for taxi or car. At the Summit there are panoramic views of the mountains of Kyrenia and, do not forget to take pictures:) If you like my comment useful votes. Thank you.

  • Beautiful castle, but nothing for guests with a disability. Many steps and steep paths up and down. Great view to the sea.

  • Very beautiful castle where you will get the best scenic pics of the surrounding area. Will take around an hour and a half to do everything and make sure you're wearing proper shoes for those tricky paths near the top!
  • Great view of Girne (Kyrenia) at the summit so I can say it was worth the climb. You need to be reasonably fit for this one and as everyone one says wear trainers to avoid slips and trips. I could see my hotel, The Kemerli Konak 700 metres below. OK for kids.
  • Wow. Just go. (Wear trainers if you can, have water and be prepared to climb... It's soo worth it)
  • Fantastic views, good experience but unless your super fit take your time going up the steps.
  • Nice place Historical We visited in Augest So place was bit hot But the room/ building were bit cold
