Amathus, Agios Tychon

The complex of palaces, public baths, and temples at Amathus represents one of the oldest ancient towns of Cyprus. The earliest detected settlement at the site dates to the second millennium BCE, or the earliest Iron Age. Today, you can observe ruins that are linked to the Greeks, Persians, and Romans, among other ancient civilizations. Walk among millennia-old crumbling structures and gaze at pillars that once supported lavish palaces. See the former acropolis with a finely preserved monumental stone cistern. • We were staying at the Four Seasons hotel, so this was an easy 25 minute stroll along the beach front walkway. Fascinating to see the layout of a 3000 year old town centre and picture how it might hav...  more »
  • Here you can reach by car, bus. We walked (lived on the outskirts of Limassol). There is an area with ancient ruins, where paid entrance (did not go) and a free area on the mountain. Accidentally saw a pointer when strolling along the promenade along the sea and turned:) groomed track took us up the Hill. Later of course tracks already were not so civilized, nevertheless, groomed and it is clear where to go) recommend stock off-line cards, they are all marked trails. As I understood the grief of the 2 playgrounds, they lead different trails. Excavations at the sites of ancient too. Plaques describing nowhere. But! This place not only for lovers of history, but also for nature and adoration for aesthetes like climbing on the mountains and ruins)) from the mountains are stunning! You can bring a bottle of ... drink and sit down for a short while, enjoy the beauties)) SHL guards no:)) Cool photoshoot you provided, subscribers in Instagramm will die of envy with young children-I do not recommend. Shoes-comfortable. And in a way!

  • Interesting place! doubted whether or not to go, but in vain. More hours have explored the ruins. I advise you to prepare in advance-to come to the Guide, or at least saved articles into your phone's browser, as we are. Interesting to read that before you. Another particularly liked the part opposite Amathus, on the Hill. Unable to climb to the top, do not have the time, but even with mid-impress and forced to sit and admire the sea and "catch"

  • Can't get very close to this salt lake. Visited because 100's of flamingo's migrate here in the autumn. Take a camera that magnifies!
  • Excellent historical site. Good little museum included.
  • Aphrodite's temple - despite in ruins, absolutely worth visiting if you're in Limassol. Ethereal mark of an old civilization that used to be a cradle of the modern world.
  • Disappointed. It’ nothing compared to Kourion, Paphos mosaics and other sites.
  • Great monument great place to visit - it should be declared as Unesco World Heritage Monument
