Specialty Museum Museum
More than 500 years of maritime history is yours to experience at Maritime Museum, a nautical gem on the west coast of the island. The museum takes you on an oceanic journey, charting the history of Curacoa. From its position at the center of international trade routes in the Atlantic Ocean, its involvement in the slave and smuggling trade, to the history of the island's harbours, a series of informative displays and artefacts help tell the island's story. Don't miss the fully working miniature oil refinery, a separate exhibit that traces back the history of the island's oil industry from 1918. Harbor tours can be included in with a museum visit, and the museum shop specialises in maritime books. • Great mix of the history of colonialism in the new world, the technology of the ships, and the local history of Willemstad. An enjoyable place to spend an hour or two.
  • Good for a rainy day on the island. Helps kids understand some of the history of the region
  • Historical museum about the ships and people here on Curacao. Small, but a nice place to visit.
  • Leonard Burlington Smith, creator of the Queen Emma bridge and American consul to Curacao, was born in Orrington, Maine 10 Sep 1839. His parents were Leonard Smith and wife Mary A. Mill Creek was a small village in the town of Orrington where the Smith family lived. Mill Creek is not the name of the town where L.B. Smith was born; he was born in Orrington, Maine.
