Cueva del Indio, Vinales
(2.2/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
View the many Taino petroglyphs at Cueva del Indio, a cave on the water along the jagged coastline. Step back to an era that likely took place before Columbus' discovery of the Americas, in an area where Taino Indians are thought to have conducted tribal meetings. During these ceremonies, experts postulate, the Taino would make the mysterious inscriptions and drawings on the cave walls. This cave has the largest number of petroglyphs along the coast. Wear appropriate shoes as the terrain on the trail leading to the site can be challenging. • Get there early before the buses. Short walk and boat trip to experience inside the cave. Not a huge amount going on and could be better lit.
  • Is a beautiful Cave but nothing extraordinary. We can appreciate the various rock formations inside and boating in a subterranean Lagoon which ends on the other side of the cave. We waited almost half an hour just to walk on the boat! And after the boat trip seemed too short. In addition, I don't think that is correct the guides never notify in advance that in addition to paying the tour over there, we have to pay extra to get into the cave. If we want to take pictures with the Indians, especially an extra ... You might as well be transparent and immediately submit all costs.

  • When in Vinales we decided to drive out and visit the 'Cueva del Indio'. There is a car park and the grounds that the cave is in are well kept. Once you have paid for your ticket (CUC10 - About GB£7) ...  more »
