Cactus Patriarch, Varadero

2.2
Visit Cactus Patriarch, a giant treelike cactus that stands over 6 m (20 ft) tall and is over half a millennium old. It is believed to be the oldest living thing in all of Cuba, and therefore the only living witness to the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Surrounded by dense green vegetation, the cactus sits near a natural salt pit where leathers and meats were prepared. Hire a local guide to learn about the history of the cactus and surrounding area. • We are home in the ocean Varadero El Patriarca, and so it was of course the duty program, visit the 500th tree. Makes real impression to see a tree that was already 500 years ago with the arrival of the Spaniards.
