Cactus Patriarch, Varadero

(2/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Visit Cactus Patriarch, a giant treelike cactus that stands over 6 m (20 ft) tall and is over half a millennium old. It is believed to be the oldest living thing in all of Cuba, and therefore the only living witness to the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Surrounded by dense green vegetation, the cactus sits near a natural salt pit where leathers and meats were prepared. Hire a local guide to learn about the history of the cactus and surrounding area.
