Valle de los Ingenios, Trinidad

(3.9/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
See where the town of Trinidad made its money during a visit to Valle de los Ingenios, a network of three interconnected valleys located 8 km (5 mi) to the east of town. During the 19th century, the valleys were home to over 50 sugar cane mills, and the ruins of the estates that built up around them can still be seen today. Some of the most impressive, preserved sites include bell towers and warehouses, slave quarters and manor houses. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, the valley's natural landscape and slowly decaying colonial sites combine well to form atmospheric and evocative scenes. Put Valle de los Ingenios and other Trinidad attractions into our Trinidad vacation generator, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • A traditional place in the history of the settlement in Trinidad. I recommend go to the mirador, it costs a little bit but at the top has a privileged view of what were the mills.

  • It is the most beautiful thing that can be seen. With a canopy to not miss this visit always must be repeated.

  • There are two ways to go, a bus and another whose tickets are purchased at the "station" or in the center of Trinidad tourism agencies in the tourist 'train'. Several surprises us wait in the second option: station has 25 meters long and has seats for 100 tourists who await his exit. Second surprise; After settle comfortably in the first wagon (they are open, all wood and without windows) enters the smoke of the locomotive and must cover the nose with tissues, for which all migrate toward the two cars back. The landscape is very picturesque; rural and bananas, but the Museum of the ingenuity of the terminal is abandoned and without a guide that explains it. The best: the Iznaga stop and lunch with traditional Cuban music with the view of the tower that appears in the photo. In short, a very smoky and fun ride!

  • Train ride to the "valle de los ingenios" between sugar cane plantations. Show up at the ticket office of the tourist train station before 9.00, pay attention to the queue for the ticket (10cuc). Only start at 09.30. Return to 15.30. Bring water, hat, fruit. First stop at "Manaca Iznaga" old sugar cane plantation that employed up to 300 slaves. The place is great x buy lace, crafts and for drinking guarapò (cane juice). Wanting to 1cuc you can take coconut to drink its juice and after, eat the flesh. Also available as bananas. Good supply of fruit for eating at the next stop, the red snapper, if you do not want to take advantage of the restaurant. Original train years 20-30 very beautiful landscape. Sugar cane and mango from all sides ... I was hoping to see the sugar cane processing x make sugar but unfortunately nothing. Actually the Red Snapper is just refreshment.
