Salto del Caburni, Trinidad

4.4
#3 of 6 in Parks in Trinidad
Waterfall Nature / Park
Venture into Cuba’s Parque Natural Topes de Collantes and visit the cascading Salto del Caburni. Start the 7 km (4.4 mi) round-trip hike by heading downhill through lush forest; you'll encounter distinctive rock outcroppings and canyon-like cliff faces before you reach the waterfall. Watch as the water cascades over rocks into a natural swimming pool at its base, which attracts hearty souls willing to brave the chilly water. Pack lots of water, as your walk back is entirely uphill. Falls are smaller during the dry season. Be advised that there is a fee for the hike. Put Salto del Caburni at the forefront of your travel plans using our Trinidad family vacation planner.

  • Reach salto del caburni involves a wax fatigue, go down for about an hour in the middle of the beautiful forest tropicare finally alal caburni waterfall where you can resume doing a fantastic bathroom. Very tiring to climb back up. You should bring plenty of water, food and mineral salts

  • If you plan to go to the Trinidad area and you like any combination of hiking, swimming, or scenery you should absolutely set aside a half-day to visit this beautiful spot. We hired a driver from Trin...  more »
  • market, rather backward to go 45 minutes, you can reach inside a heavily wooded Gorge: these beautiful waterfalls (though a little expensive anyway: because you must pay first 2CUC/vehicle parking and at the check point of entry 10CUC/person and even 15CUC in high season). Don't forget to bring plenty of water with you, because the ballad is pretty challenging, including return (more than an hour to lift almost permanently) because of heat and wetness ambient... unless you decide to borrow the horses that a handy 'guide' crossing the track revels to make available "exhausted". At the level of the cascades: you have 2 points to a few meters (separate ways):-waterfalls themselves on top, where you can soak and really to refresh of the market in fresh water that runs and in wrong them (water holes, sinks), can climb almost to the top. Attention! it slides! wet stones, polished by the flow and sometimes mossy are extremely slippery in some places and we have seen some spectacular falls, fortunately without much damage (if it breaks a leg, it should not be easy, easy back then). -the pool downstairs: wide receptacle with water while less clear, but so nice also for swimming and a few dives since the overhang. We need to analyze the last waterfall that feeds this pool, and get below... you will find that the water coming in a big and wide jet is hot enough, because enough fresh on the upper part, it heats up as the descent on the stones where it flows. Attention here to the mosquitoes, who revel in flesh fresh... watch from the promontory birds troglodytes on the species of Cliff (in case of small circus) on the other side, who spend their time hunting (a bit of mosquitoes, I hope) to feed their offspring in the holes of the wall. We barely get out of this place cool and pleasant, because he's going to have to go back. And, this is not fun, even for good walkers. The stifling mugginess has quickly because of the cool stored at the waterfalls... and sometimes forces of the weak. Drink little, but often to do not get dehydrated. Tips: to 1/3 of the way around, you have a small clear river flowing from a small cave on the way: especially not drinking or fill your bottles, even if you have little water, but you can do without water on the face and arms and even, I recommend it, wet your t-shirts: it will help you stay fresh for the rest of the market. 2/3, you have a deftly placed bar: which server ask you bantering, if interested in a refreshment (coconut milk). Arrived at the checkpoint, you believe to be done and you can also buy drinks and you refresh the Jet flowing at all times (to the virtues explained on the Panel)... and no! 2nd effect kiss cool: you have a comeback very stiff on the road to reach the parking lot above, and in the hot sun scorching, you will quickly lose your forces: it's tough! In the end a good hike, but we can't wait to return to Trinidad (for the most part) and the shower allowing you the renewed need to enjoy salsa and cocktails!

  • I really enjoyed this excursion. We got there with a colourful old Russian Army truck and then undertook an initially easy hike. Later, the hike became rather engaging descending vertically several hundred of meters down to the little pool and water fall (bring you swim wear for a very cool and needed refreshment in the natural pool). We even spotted the Tocororo bird which is the national symbol of Cuba.
  • Nice hike to the waterfalls. It is quite expensiv though. Definitley pack your swimming gear. The water was refreshing in january.
  • Nice waterfall - worth a hike. Takes a few hours (return)
  • Really difficult to find. Very tired after walking mountains down and up stairs. Local people don't speak English at all.
  • Amazing place ! The nature and the waterfalls are beautiful ! It's well worth the walk even is you don't like to walk ;)
