Take a step back to the 1500s at the World Heritage Site that showcases colonial Cuba at Plaza Mayor. Built, along with the surrounding architecture during the peak of 18th and 19th centuries' sugar cane wealth, the plaza retains this old world charm. Wander cobblestone streets and see the preserved, colorful colonial houses, along with original streetlamps and benches. The site features the island's first Catholic place of worship. A visit to Plaza Mayor represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Trinidad itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

The Plaza Mayor is beautiful, even if it is the (touristic?) nerve heart of Trinidad, but the entire city that deserves 5 stars. We are not tired of wandering this beautiful colonial city in autonomy. We loved its cobblestone streets, facades and their colorful doors and gates. Feel free to deviate from the pedestrian streets for the discovery of an authentic Cuba in alleys where there are far fewer tourists. In the evening, enjoy the 'fresh' relative to a chilled cocktail during the "Happy Hour". In the evening, your ears will benefit from a sequence of Cuban music or live according to the places more certainly to the casa de la Musica on the Plaza Mayor. Trinidad, a stop not to be missed (3 nights minimum to enjoy).

Trinidad and his place will remain my favorite Cuban place (apart from Vinales...), the city is colorful, charming, a partly pedestrian city where it is pleasant to stroll especially in the evening to this beautiful place. Lots of restaurants and shops. A charm

Absolutely beautiful. Like Antigua, Guatemala, but much safer at night.

Beautiful spot to sit and enjoy the slower pace of life than Havana!

Typical tourist destination in Havana. Beautiful Colonial buildings surrounded by cars from the 1950's to decorate a little.

The Plaza Mayor in Trinidad, Cuba, is the historic centre of the town, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988. The buildings surrounding the plaza (central square) date from the 18th and 19th centuries when trade in sugar from the nearby Valle de los Ingenios and the slave trade brought great riches to the area. Many of the buildings surrounding the plaza belonged to the wealthy landowners of the city. When the trade in sugar diminished and the slave trade ended in the mid-19th century, Trinidad became a backwater and little building work occurred until the 1950s. As a result, many of the historic buildings and streets were preserved, especially the grand colonial edifices in the immediate vicinity of the Plaza Mayor. Today, most of the former houses surrounding the square serve to house museums.
