Iglesia Parroquial Mayor del Espiritu Santo, Trinidad
Categories: Churches, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
In the heart of the city stands Iglesia Parroquial Mayor del Espiritu Santo, the biggest church in Cuba. Towering over the plaza, the church features a simplistic Neo-classical façade with cracked paint and stains around its edges. Inside the church contains an impressive 18th-century wooden statue of Christ "El Señor de la Vera Cruz," which serves as a culturally important monument of the city. Notice the grand white arches that support the church's high ceilings and a mahogany alter lavished with decoration at the end of the hall. Lovely old church standing at the top of Plaza Mayor. Not much to see inside and it's free but donations are welcome. Worth a look even if it's to get out of the blazing sun.
