Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, Santiago de Cuba

(4.2/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Make your way to Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption to witness the 16th Century architecture that stands tall over Satiago de Cuba's central square. Erected in 1518, the cathedral features two tall bell towers flanking each side of the holy structure. Before you head in, take a look between the two towers to find an imposing statue of Michael the Archangel. Wander inside to find a tall central nave with wooden pews leading all the way down to a central altar. Arches and columns hold up the structure and stretch all the way up to a light blue and white dome shaped ceiling. Climb up one of the towers to enjoy views over the city. • the cathedral is beautiful. The pipe organ is gorgeous. New pulpit built and is beautiful. The frescos on ceiling are quite nice. There are relics to saints. Beautifully maintained.  more »
  • You really can't miss this church as it location really makes it stand out. Simpler than a lot of Cathedral's in the world which does not detract from its beauty.  more »
  • It's a steep climb but well worth the effort as the panoramic view is stunning. The church itself, rebuilt in the 1920s in Neo-Baroque style is no great shakes.  more »
