Casa de Diego Velazquez, Santiago de Cuba

4.2
#1 of 7 in Museums in Santiago de Cuba Province
Intricate details carved in dark wood make Casa de Diego Velazquez a desirable destination for visitors interested in learning more about Cuba's rich cultural and artistic heritage. Built between 1516 and 1530, the house remains the oldest building one the island, which once served as the residences of Spanish conqueror and first governor Diego Velazquez. Each room presents a window into the past, featuring French porcelain, Spanish ceramics, and other decorative objects with an obvious Moorish twist. To get the most out of your experience, visit the museum with an English-speaking guide. Plan my Santiago de Cuba trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

  • For many this is the House more ancient of Cuba, because it was the residence of adelantado Don Diego Velázquez and Cuellar, the founder of many of the first villas of Cuba and its first Governor, but the truth is that I don't think so, I do not think that at that time had the condition NES needing to make a House, but dispute aside, the place is amazing, things showing the works of furniture, handicraft and it is a sort of journey in her time. Located in the very heart of santiago on a few sides of square lawns and the Cathedral Museum of Velazquez the traveler brings an enormous amount of information about the origins of our cultural identity
