Museo Giron, Playa Giron
(3.6/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Brush up on some local history at Museo Giron, a collection of artefacts, photographs and military vehicles that tell you the story of the Bay of Pigs invasion. In 1961, just a stones throw from the museum site, 1,400 Cuban exiles invaded the bay in an attempt to overthrow their leader, Fidel Castro, during the Cold War. An attack backed by the United States, the museum weaves together the history of the invasion from the Cuban perspective, with a film showing the "first defeat of US imperialism in the Americas". Explore outside the museum and find the British Hawker Sea Fury aircraft and ruins of an American aircraft carrier, reminders of the bay's very recent past. • Worth visiting the Giron Museum to learn as they interpreted the defeat of the invaders Yankees and the triumph of the Cuban forces. Use propaganditico which made the Castro regime of this fact to attributed. It is a short visit, they are two rooms full of objects of the protagonists, texts of exaltation, photographs, etc... If you travel throughout the South by car is good to visit Cueva de los Peces, Punta perdiz, Giron and Caleta Buena and filled the day knowing the entire area of the Bay of pigs.

  • Some of the museums is more important for the revolution, since it's a memorial building to victory over the U.S. invasion that repelled the Cuban troops. It is necessary to involve the guides, because they are certainly a little "relaxed", but as soon as you ask and they feel attention, they turn over with you. It is impressive to see the remains of U.S. aircraft shot down, and other tanks on the outside of it. I recommend it completely.

  • Either can be Spanish, then explains the detailed processing of the pig Bay invasion on the boards without any problems, or you know the historical background anyway, then you can arrange any photos and the very ancient, contemporary black and white film. Otherwise remains only a leader who speaks a familiar language somewhat...

  • deep into history with this museum full of pictures, weapons and explications both in spanish and english. Good experience
  • Small museum. They make you pay more if you want to take pictures, so...you know...just don't make it obvious that you are taking pictures.
  • This a small museum (2 large rooms and outdoor exhibition) commemorating the 1961 defeat of the "Bay of pigs invasion" force. The indoor exhibition has few guns/mortars of both sides and some personal items of the fallen soldiers and civilians. There is a good explanation of the whole operation with maps and even some background on the life in the region before invasion. On the display in the outdoor exhibition are three tanks (T34,SU100 and M41) one aircraft (Hawker Sea Fury) and some wrecks of the invaders aircrafts (B26) and boats The entry fee is 2CUC (in 2013) and 1 CUC for camera. The acompanying texts are in Spanish and English (some incorrect and funny translations are present). The whole exhibition is bit heavy on the communistic propaganda which is a shame as this would be interesting even without it.
  • Museo Giron (Playa Giron, Cuba). Museum chronicling the collapse of the US in their landing attempt in 1961 in the Bay of pigs.

  • Small museum about the invasion of the Bay of pigs and its defense. Not much to see if you are not special interest.
