Cayo Levisa, Pinar del Rio Province

4.0
#4 of 7 in Nature in Pinar del Rio Province
Known for its black coral, Cayo Levisa invites you to its white sands and crystal clear waters for some fun in the sun. An abundance of palm trees and beach chairs line the sands, providing plenty of space to kick back in the shade as you take in views of the Gulf of Mexico. With some luck, you can find exotic marine life such as starfish as you snorkel or dive in the island’s calm waters. Retreat to one of the beachside bungalows or grab a bite and drink at one of the many eateries located on the island. • You need to pay $50 (50 CUC) for one dive and pay for equipment rental although you have most of your own gear with you. The boat is full of snorkelers and 2 divers and one diving guide. Maximum divin...  more »
  • I like to write my travel diaries, so it attached the day of Cayo Levisa stage: after eating, returned back to the Cubanacan Agency to get tickets for tomorrow the excursion to Cayo Levisa. We pay 38 CUC per head for the bus, boat and a sandwich each. There is an option with lunch, which assumes that it is a buffet, for 47 CUC, but as my idea is to go to an area away from the key, do not take that option to avoid having to go back to eat. I worried about the time that we are going to do tomorrow. The girl tells me that tour is not cancelled in case of rain, since we are in rainy season and rain rain safe... The question is how much and when. (...) How to describe today... unique, unrepeatable, unexpected, unbelievable... Everything you say will be little and I also believe that the photos do not do justice to the wonders that we have seen, but let us start from the beginning (...) (COUNCIL) Recommend carry bags watertight, which we have been very helpful throughout the day (and in fact they have been throughout the trip). When I went to Thailand, 10 liters and 20 liters seemed to me very practical. The latter with two belts, important fact, because 20 liters with a single handle is too much weight to the shoulder. But in today I discovered that those bags that capacity are practical when you're with your guy, he just it has nothing, but when you go with your mother and you have many "essential", it is best to take 2 from 20 litres to go loose. We finally have one of 5, one of 10, a 20 and a backpack of the Decathlon, the four full up to above 2 umbrella and 1 umbrella, and although it can be surprising, we use everything. Loaded shoulders once, we went to the Cubanacan Agency. We have been in front of the door of the Agency to the 8.20 hours. Buses leave point at 8.30 (we do have a large bus and a micro-bus). After an hour and a half of travel, with air conditioning to death, what hobby... a road littered with huge holes filled with water and mud (Council: better go on public transport than in one rented, because it suffers a lot and can be pulled by the way) We arrived at the pier to go to Cayo Levisa. There is a sort of bar, where you can go to the bathroom, although there is also a bathroom in the boat and although the latter is very small, if it stops at the bar, then the latter will reach the boat and gets one free site, as we did to us that we had to go sitting on the railing of the back. Luck not raining much. It took half an hour to get to Cayo Levisa. From a distance I didn't think that the cayo seeing our fate, since that only saw was what I thought was forest. After docking, we went all through a Boardwalk to front desk that manages the cabins where guests are housed. There the worker gives us an explanatory talk. Apparently, customers that will just spend the day only can use the beach that is located on the right as you are facing the sea, and guests staying in the cabins, can also use the beach on the left. There is possible to rent towels for 2 CUC and snorkel gear for 5 CUC. At 1130 hours comes a trip to snorkeling or diving in the Coral Reef. If snorkelling, it costs 18 CUC and if diving, costs 50 CUC. The total duration of the tour is 1 hour and 45 minutes. There is also the possibility to take free salsa lessons at 3 p.m.. The restaurant which corresponds to customers who come and go in the day, is the Galleon, whose hours are 12: 30 to 15 hours. According to the ticket that has been paid in the Agency, a sandwich or a buffet is up to us. People who took the ticket from the sandwich can access the buffet by paying the difference. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to do in Cayo Levisa, and in fact that I finally chose this key, instead of by Cayo Jutías, but I am interested in snorkeling excursion, because I love to see marine wildlife, but big , type turtles, blankets... As the day is very cloudy, I ask the guy if it is worth. He tells me that, but I am not convinced much and also tells me that if I do the excursion I can not carry out my other idea, because I would not give time to all. So the thing is decided quickly. The story is that I read a blog from a guy where was that it had asked a worker of the Cay by a quiet and intimate area to be with his partner and this had recommended they go to Punta arena, which is also inhabited by a colony of starfish. This fact was which made me decide for Cayo Levisa, because I wanted to live the same experience that that guy had lived... And if we live it. They were the 11.15 hours and gave me rage having to wait until 12: 30 for the sandwich, which we already chose deliberately because we didn't want to have again from Punta Arena to go to the buffet. So with the naturalness that characterizes me, I went to the restaurant El Galeón to ask please if they could get ahead a couple of sandwiches. They were very kind and in 20 minutes we had our warm sandwiches ready in the backpack (the drink is not included). Just find ourselves in restaurant to the...

  • Lovely beach with limited access by the ferry (1 per day) so it's pleasantly quiet. Separation of zones between the hotel guests and the day trip tourists. Buffet for day trip tourist was ok. If you book the day trip from vinales with buffet lunch is 47 CUC per person. You could also choose a "lunch box" instead with around 33 CUC.
  • Beautiful beach and 'mangrove', dull food but choice is available, amazing walk to the punta arenas beach. The room's quality vary enormously from one to the other. The first one we got was smelling bad and looked very old. They changed it for a much nicer one when we asked. They have a broad range of activities which are not available every day (due to weather) so keep it in mind and do the ones you fancy as soon as possible.
  • Wonderful white sandy beach to get some rest and recreation. Hotel service could be more friendly
  • We took day trip from Vinales for 39 CUC/per person(bus+boat+ packed lunch) it was worth it. Great beach, much more relaxed and chilled comparing to Cayo Jutias. Beach chairs included in the price
  • Good beach, good lunch, but unless you LOVE the beach, you might not like it. The photo is from snorkeling.
