Palacio De Los Capitanes Generales, Havana

4.6
Admire the architecture and get a glimpse of Havana through the centuries at Palacio De Los Capitanes Generales. Formerly the governor's residence, today this late 18th-century Cuban Baroque building houses the city museum. Admire its ornate limestone facade and stained glass windows, then step inside to view exhibits of period furniture, artworks, clothes, weapons, ceramics, and more. Wander the picturesque courtyard, where peacocks roam freely around a statue of Columbus. Plan my Havana trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

This Palace is facing the Plaza de Armas, currently in restoration for which we could not access. It has a peculiarity that the street that runs in front is the only paved with wood. This is so, because the spouse of the Governor who could not rest because of the noise of carriages, ordered to build it wood. Continuously currently go holding. It is now the Museum of the city and is considered to be the work of major architectural importance of the Baroque development in Cuba. This Palace was built on the spot where the ancient Cathedral of Havana. Its construction began in the year 1776. It was the seat of 65 General captains sent by Spain to rule Cuba as well as the enclosure of the administrator of the United States during the intervention of 1898 to 1902; and as usual it was also served during the Republic's presidential palace until 1920. In its inner courtyard is a statue of Cristóbal Colón, settled in this place in the year 1862. This building served as well as seat of the Town Hall and jail, as well as to lock on the mezzanine level several offices of the Government some theaters have been destined to show the colonial decoration of the Palace, with pieces of high value, an eloquent example is the so-called Salon White featuring luxurious Venetian mirrors. I have attached a photo, did you useful?
